Some form of external display

I'd like to either assemble or buy some sort of led array or lcd panel that would display scrolling song information from either winamp or itunes, the kind of thing I would put on a shelf above my monitor. I'd be interested in some sort of panel, hopefully rather inexpensive, that would be maybe 8" wide. I really don't know what to even search for for this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Thank you for the help Lonyo!
That looks good, but I was looking for maybe a slightly larger display, more easily readable from across the room.

Something like http://www.adaptivedisplays.com/Pages/products1.htm might work if you need more size, though be warned that hobbyist support for those is likely to be a lot worse than for the smaller serial/USB LCDs.

You could also try using a fresnel lense to magnify the output from a small panel such as Lonyo suggested.

Your other option is one of the c. 8 inch LCDs used in car computer systems. With those, however, "inexpensive" goes right out the window.
