KANSAS CITY, M o. - Let’s call it “The Miracle on 74th Street.”

A group of families who live on 74th Street in Kansas City, Mo., came together to dig an ambulance out of snow and firefighters say they likely saved a man's life.

About 12:30 p.m., on Tuesday, the group living in a Waldo neighborhood noticed an ambulance stuck in the winter snow, delaying precious minutes on their way to an ambulance call.

KCMO firefighters said the man on the street had had minor cardiac issues in the past and on Tuesday had trouble after shoveling snow.

However, the emergency response to him was slowed when the ambulance tires started spinning.

Neighbors one by one came out of their homes, shovels in hand, and dug a whole city block in a matter of minutes because they knew the clock was ticking.

"We went down there and started trying to dig out,” John Molloy, who helped dig the stuck ambulance out of the snow, said. “Ten or 12 people came out and everybody just started shoveling. It's a real testament to the whole city block of people in the neighborhood."

My wife told me a while back that a female co-worker of hers went home from work early because she was so stressed out by the news that Kim Kardashian was getting a divorce from Kris Humphries.

And this person was employed the next day why?

That's great. I actually live in the Waldo neighborhood and I'm not surprised. Very friendly people here. Even more so when there's 10+ inches of snow on the ground.

this story is nothing new.

Its happened numerous times in any snowy place.

It happened here back in Dec 7 - 9 2010 when we got hit with over 3 feet of snow. Emergency vehicles were getting stuck on streets while responding to calls because our snow removal crews were overwhelmed. TV crews taped people digging out ambulances and firetrucks. Compassion for our fellow man is more common than some people think.

I agree. A little empowerment to do something good can go a long way.

I picked a guy up off the floor outside at a McD's drive-thru when he collapsed because of no circulation to his legs. This is just natural instinct. What am I supposed to do - just stand there and watch? I was right there. 2 other guys came and tried to help too.

Now if it were a couple guys and a confrontation that may involve a gun or knives, that'd be a different story.

Gee, thanks for ruining what little hope was just gained.
