Extended warranties for American made cars pay for themselves in the long run.

Depends on how the cars are maintained. Extended warrantied only exist to make the car dealers more money.

You would think that would be the case but that is absolutetly not true/false/myth.

I have had two vehicles that were maintained to a T, and bought new so I know the maint. was done correctly and on time. Maint. has absolutely nothing to do with a tranny going bad twice, intake manifolds leaking at 40K miles, computer boards popping and taking out the ABS and airbags, the list goes on.:(

what year is the durango? Seems kinda of early for the tranny to go out, but maybe it's just me...

Yeah, but who knows what the previous owner could have towed around that could have messed the transmission up bad?

Unless you buy a brand new Durango with the Daimler tranny, the older Durango's transmissions suck.

The funny part is that the front wheel drive Caravans, Intrepids, Stratus's all have the A604 Ultradrive tranny, while the Dakota and Durango have a totally different tranny.
They both suck though.

I heard extended warranty is worth every penny on a plasma TV. If for some reason anything goes wrong with the panel except for breakage, it's most likely a total loss since the panel is where the value is. I would say the chance is a lot higher than the engine blowing up on a $7,000 car.
