some dude kicked a squirrel into the grand canyon...

At the grand canyon they are 1 step away from trained cuz all the tourists feed them. Even though they have signs not to feed them.

When I hiked down the canyon, at a rest area, another visitor was sitting and eating a chocolate bar, and a squirrel unexpectedly took it out of his hands.

I worked in Yosemite for several summers. The gray squirrels there were pretty tame as well from tourists feeding them. Someone told me they saw some jackass kick one off Glacier Point. Don't know how some people can be so cruel. It does seem a bit over the top PETA in the UK getting all hot and bothered and putting up a many thousands of dollars reward to identify the guy. Just give it to an animal shelter or something.

I don't at all condone the action, but would people feel the same if this person drop kicked a *rat* into the Grand Canyon?

squirrel is nothing more than a rat with a bushy tail, but that was a pretty putz move.

I see them more the same way as domesticated stray cats. Ones that will come at you and stuff. You may not be attached to them like a pet, but they're practically like a pet. I saw one in my yard years back and was hoping I'd get to tame it but never saw it since. If I put peanuts out the crows get to them first.

Kind of messed up, but it is a squirrel. Big deal.

Gotta say I agree with this sentiment. Would I personally go out of my way to do this to an animal? Hell no.

BUT IT'S A DAMN SQUIRREL! COME ON!! I kill at least 3 of them a year in my car (not on purpose of course, but because they're stupid and won't get out of the road in time).

It wasn't like he stabbed a bald eagle or took down a bison with a bazooka. If he had kicked someone's dog overboard, you'd have my full rage boner.

Same on many college campuses in Florida. The students feed them and they will come right up to someone eating.

Some even have figured out how to rob vending machines.

I'm not caring because it's a squirrel, I'm caring because the assholes baited the animal then punted it for fun.
