some dude kicked a squirrel into the grand canyon...

But in this case the squirrel didn't jump or was dropped, but kicked pretty hard, that can't be too good for it :/
 
lol it's cruel and all but the soundtrack kinda made it hilarious at the same time.
What a dick for feeding the guy then kicking him off though.
 
It's not really acceptable or ethical to go kicking a harmless animal.

That said, the terminal velocity of a squirrel is such that the fall is unlikely to hurt it seriously (just like a cat), and also just like a cat, squirrels have a very well developed "righting reflex".
 
how did he manage to get close enough to kick the squirrel in the first place?

All true. Being of low mass does help in the kicking part too, but the acceleration might wreak havoc internally.

And Butch1, I don't think the height really matters. That's why it's called terminal velocity. If you drop a beatle from 4000' there is no way for it to fall fast enough to die when it hits. I think that is true for a mouse. Not sure about a squirrel, but after thinking about it I lean toward dead 🙂. It's been a long time since I handled one. I remember them being pretty light, but I don't know if they are light enough.

yeah. anywhere you have constant visitors, especially tourists, the squirrels are a legit terror. Any college campus, they are evil bold little assholes.

Every visitor things feeding them and photographing them is such a great idea. And this is the worst time of year--the new generation is running out of the nest, learning to gather and hide shit. They learn pretty quickly that large bipedal humans are a great source of food. They stalk and attack random people just walking by.

Over the last two weeks, just walking outside the building--one of the annual squirrel breeding ground/facebook photo studios on campus--I've seen 4 squirrel attacks.

People think this is "cute."

trust me, that thing died, i went to a university that had palm trees and i would ride my bike past dead squirrels that had fallen out of those trees and onto dirt ground (not freakin rock) every day

Are you even sure it died though? Squirrels are pretty good at not getting hurt when falling and if the canyon this douche kicked it into has a sloping wall it may have survived with no injuries... assuming it survived the kick of course.
 
Could he have slipped when approaching the edge to get a good view and when he tried to balance himself his leg swung around or up and smacked into the squirrel by accident? Wait and see if this will be a defense.

I have yet to see a squirrel fall out of a tree, but I'll take your word for it. It's a long way down from the crown of some palms.
 
Nice, I always believed animal cruelty needs to have bigger fines. If he had kicked a person over it would be murder.

There is a potential chance the squirrel survived but it's probably hurting bad. I don't imagine they have a very high terminal velocity. Either way, I would not want to try it. The kick probably did him in though. That's gonna break pretty much every rib and possibly the spine.

I miss the old place I used to camp at all the time, they would come eat from our hands and stuff, was awesome.

i watched a squirrel fall off a high tension power line over a road it was about 50 feet that squirrel was dead.
