less than 2 car lengths that you are following the car in front of you is considered tailgating, which is arguably more dangerous and also illegal. i back off if someone is trying to wedge themselves in, no point in playing the fool for a fraction of a second lost in my commute. driving a company truck has really mellowed my driving.

I would leave 3 cars But that just entices other people to cut in front of me. 1 car would be too close for me. I feel 2 cars is enough for me to take proper action.

You should always leave 3 seconds between your car and the car ahead of you for adequate stopping distance. In town, that's normally 2-3 car lengths. Fuck you if you want to merge into my safety bubble. The space isn't there for you to merge into, its there as a buffer in case the guy ahead of me decides to slam on his brakes.

When someone indicates that they need to move over, you can slow down to give them some space. Makes everyone's lives easier.

I do it for you. You should do it for me.

being in or out of the fast lane is not the problem. even in the fast lane, other drivers will pull in front of you and then go slower. it's the american way.

Much of the reason you have this problem is because idiots on the right won't let that person get out of your way. Idiots doing exactly what YOU do.

Some idiots come up behind a slow driver and immediately pass on the right without giving them a chance to move over.

DON'T PASS ON THE RIGHT UNLESS YOU'VE WAITED PATIENTLY, THE PERSON IN FRONT HAS DEMONSTRATED IGNORANCE, AND YOU HAVE NO LANE ON THE LEFT. If there is a lane on the left and you have no opening...activate your signal and WAIT for an opportunity.

Pot, kettle.

I see no problem with that since I was not impeding anyone.

I've had to cross double solid yellow lines when opposing traffic is clear to pass slow drivers in front of me. Then they would get all offended and honk and flash their lights at me for passing them. You tell me why people like to play follow the leader and hold up traffic and they get all angry if I don't want to play.

Agreed. The problem is, most bad drivers mistakenly believe they are the good drivers and everyone else is bad. You are one such example.

Yes I'm a good and courteous driver. But I'm not going to be courteous when other drivers aren't.

Try living somewhere with real traffic. You end up practically going backwards with that attitude.

If this is about driver's coming out of merge lane or attempting to enter one then the other driver should yield and have not been in the way to begin with.

If it's about asshat flying through traffic and just trying to squeeze in so they can pass another driver than that is the other driver's fault.

Personally I hate when a row of traffic stays in the far right lane when a highway merge is present.

lane.

Whenever I see another driver signal wanting to enter my lane and there is only like 2 cars lengths or less between the car in front of me, I speed up and don't let the other driver in. Several of times I've had them honk at me for not letting them in D:

After the said driver cut me off and if I have time, I would go around him and cut him off and then go even slower than him to teach him a lesson.

True. 5 years ago this psychopath cut me off. Then he thought I was tailgating him after he cut me off so he brake checked me. I went around and brake checked him back. He flipped out and started honking and tried to pass me. His car was slower than mine and I kept speeding up and slow down so he couldn't pass me. I wouldn't let him get in front because I didn't want him to brake check me again. I was driving on the right shoulder of the road to pass another car to try to get away from this lunatic who was still tailgating me and honking wildly. There was a parked car in front of me and I quickly cut left to get back into normal traffic and that lunatic almost hit that parked car.

I've had to cross double solid yellow lines when opposing traffic is clear to pass slow drivers in front of me.

You're either a troll, or you really should consider turning in your license. If there were such a thing as the Internet police where they could suspend your driver's license, I think you would have more than convinced them by now to take yours away.

That's a great way to instigate road rage. Wait, never mind, you're already doing it by that point.

No you're not, as you've proven many times already.

And I agree with Pizza, either you're trolling or if you're being serious you need to stop driving.

I bet you didn't even give them the opportunity to get over first. I bet you passed on the right without hesitation.

Deny it, but you know it's true. You're that type. The type that sees himself as a "good" driver.

You sound like a good driver. You actually care about the flow of traffic.

I do the same thing. I move left when I know that traffic will be merging from the right...specifically because I want it to be easier for Tommy2000GT and others to get where they need to be.

...and I hope Tommy2000GT would do the same for me.

tommy you seriously need to consider chilling out when you're in your car. road rage will do noone any good. I wasnt ever able to control myself when I was younger, I got into it with too many people...and for what fucking reason? You dont know that person at all, they arent worth your time or your anger. Just let them in front of you. Sometimes you see people just raging and going insane on the road, and in those cases I do think you may have to take measures to ensure that you get away from that person. But otherwise...chill out, you'll live longer.

I'm usually pretty calm but bad drivers make me so mad. I do need to find a way to calm down on the road though.

I agree it is courteous, and a good habit to have, move over when you are able to make it easier for the merging vehicles. BUT, that is not the rule of the road, so when I don't move over and people flip out and send the middle fingers flying, I get upset, because it is not my problem that they aren't able to merge properly. If I can't move over it isn't my fault, and they should be able to deal with that if they want a drivers license.

I can't defend OP and I'm not saying I'm anything like him. However, I will say one thing: When did putting on your directional turn from "Hi there, I've signaled, can I come over?" to "Fuck you, I'm coming over!"? If I'm just trying to get home to my family and I'm doing 75-80 mph in the passing lane, why the heck do I have to slow to 50mph just because you don't want to be stuck behind an 18 wheeler? Also, a little PSA here - When merging from an on ramp, you don't automatically have to go RIGHT to the passing lane just because you think you are a fast driver. Merge into the slow lanes, and then when you pick up speed or you see an opening, then move to the fast lane. And no, one car length is not a damn proper opening. Thank you for your prompt attention.

Ichinisan, you are the voice of reason here. I agree with you for the most part. But I'm afraid that people just don't do that. Maybe it's because I'm used to Boston and Mass drivers, but you are not the people I'm driving with here.

This is another one of those threads where Tommy2000GT complains about something other people are doing. He's usually wrong about whatever it is. Many people point it out and the thread grows. This thread is no different.
