I'm not going to slow down everyone in the fast lane because I didn't get an opportunity with more than two car lengths within a couple miles of my exit and some asshole wouldn't give me more room.

Also, sometimes I HAVE to merge (lane ending or diverging) with whatever position I have.

Learn to drive.

Posting in yet another T2GT is a douchebag thread. You and your GF deserve one another.

I don't believe the OP ever posted a pic of himself, his imaginary gf, or both of them together. I can't believe people even response to his threads in the L&R forum.

lane.

Whenever I see another driver signal wanting to enter my lane and there is only like 2 cars lengths or less between the car in front of me, I speed up and don't let the other driver in. Several of times I've had them honk at me for not letting them in D:
if the traffic is tight on your lane and not that fast I think it's normal. 2 car lenghts of space is maybe not enough though, but perception can vary. Also sometimes the traffic is slow and you don't have a choice so 2 car lenghts might be okay.

It would be OK if OP would recognize the intention of the signaling driver and respond appropriately by giving the other driver some room. If OP wants to go faster, he can move into the fast lane the other driver just vacated.

I don't hate the people that use their turn signal properly then enter my lane, I am a courteous driver and will yield. But I do hate:

-The assholes that cut into the lane at the last second while everyone waited inline to merge.
-The assholes that cut into your lane right in front of you as their turn signal come on, then have the audacity to show frustration that you didn't slam on your breaks to yield to them.
-The assholes that, for no particular reasons, signal and move into your lane when there is not a single car in front of them for miles.
-The assholes that leave their blinkers on for a mile before taking 5 minutes to change lane.
-The assholes that weave in and out of lanes just to end up right behind you.
-The assholes that see your blinker, and that you do need to change lane, but decide to speed up.
-The assholes that were traveling in one lane in front of you for a while, but as soon as you move out of the lane, they decide to move into that lane as well.

If you fit any of the above description, I don't wish death on you or anything like that, just take 5 minutes to reflect on why you're such a shitty human being.

This happens to me constantly when I'm pulling my trailer. As soon as the asshat in the next lane see's my blinker, he speeds up. I've started a new program of simply continuing with the lane change. My theory is that there is a long outside chance that the asshole will learn something about driving.
I see city buses do that a lot. They signal then slowly change lanes so there's lots of time to respond. So far I've never seen it cause any accidents. Every accident I've seen involving a bus has been a case of the bus stopping at a light and the guy behind them plows into the back of the bus; I bet texting was the cause of many of those.

Big trucks often need to do that. I can't always see their tail lights, but I do notice when they are changing lanes. I can let off the gas and everything goes smooth. There's no "cutting off" or whatever the OP is talking about.

From your description, you're in the wrong. 2 car lengths is plenty to merge into. Especially if they signal first.

What's awesome is when people tap their brakes and slow down because they think I'm following too close. Psychology 101 fail. I obviously can't go around because then that tells the person to keep doing this in the future to other cars on the road. I need to tailgate the guy as long as possible just to prove a point :(

being in or out of the fast lane is not the problem. even in the fast lane, other drivers will pull in front of you and then go slower. it's the american way.

it doesn't make you rage when some jerk cuts you off and them goes all slow, causing you to miss the green light? If you hadn't let this jerk cut in front of you in the first place you would have made the light.
Oh no! And now your trip is "set back" by a whopping 60 seconds!

I always laugh hyterically at the FUCKING MORONS who drive like idiots in the morning/evening on the way to/from work. If you are so late to your appointment that you have to risk the safety of the general population, maybe you should consider waking up earlier, or leaving sooner. In addition, driving Fast and Furious doesn't get you anywhere. Oh, nice job -- you made it to that red light faster than I did. If you're going to drive like a dumb ass, you might as well start running the red lights too. Then you'll really get ahead of everyone.

There was a guy a few weeks back, who was road raging and driving like a moron. He pulled in front of me and kept brake checking me. The funniest part was he would stop at each red light, then completely LAUNCH off the line when it turned green. I caught up to him and passed him later on in the trip, and I had been driving the speed limit the entire time. I had half a mind to chew him out but I didn't feel like getting shot/stabbed so I let it be. But honestly, this shit needs more enforcement.

Maybe if you're going 20 mph.

I have people do this to me on the freeway at 70+.

If you're such a terrible driver that you can't navigate a 10 foot object into a 20 foot hole, you shouldn't be driving.

I didn't say it is impossible, just extremely unsafe.

The specific example I mentioned is while doing 70+ on the freeway in the far left lane with about 2 car lengths in front (yeah, know it's close, welcome to city traffic). Almost daily, I'll have someone flip their blinker on and immediately cut right over from the middle lane, leaving 5 feet between us.

When I see someone signaling to get in front of me I slow down and let them in. What if I speed up and they make the attempt to merge anyway? I can easily see someone glancing over their shoulder, seeing room, signaling, and then starting to merge without looking again. If I speed up at just the wrong time, they're going to hit me. I prefer not to give them the opportunity.

After the said driver cut me off and if I have time, I would go around him and cut him off and then go even slower than him to teach him a lesson.

partially go into another lane if it's clear or go into the emergency lane to pass them and cut them off when you go back into your original lane. then they will get the point. bad drivers should be taught lessons.

the ones driving like an ass are the ones cutting others off.

If it is 2 car lengths or less of space, that is considered cutting me off if you try to enter into my lane.

less than 2 car lengths that you are following the car in front of you is considered tailgating, which is arguably more dangerous and also illegal. i back off if someone is trying to wedge themselves in, no point in playing the fool for a fraction of a second lost in my commute. driving a company truck has really mellowed my driving.

Well not me, but who knows what the maniacs out there are capable of?

True. 5 years ago this psychopath cut me off. Then he thought I was tailgating him after he cut me off so he brake checked me. I went around and brake checked him back. He flipped out and started honking and tried to pass me. His car was slower than mine and I kept speeding up and slow down so he couldn't pass me. I wouldn't let him get in front because I didn't want him to brake check me again. I was driving on the right shoulder of the road to pass another car to try to get away from this lunatic who was still tailgating me and honking wildly. There was a parked car in front of me and I quickly cut left to get back into normal traffic and that lunatic almost hit that parked car.

You should always leave 3 seconds between your car and the car ahead of you for adequate stopping distance. In town, that's normally 2-3 car lengths. Fuck you if you want to merge into my safety bubble. The space isn't there for you to merge into, its there as a buffer in case the guy ahead of me decides to slam on his brakes.
