Side mirror, it's shattered and the panel is pulled away at the top a little bit. I don't see any scratches on the door or anything. Maybe someone just felt like smashing a mirror.

Happened in the parking lot, I wasn't in or near the car...the dick didn't leave a note or anything.

Filed a claim online tonight, but it might take a day or two for it to go through - should I just take it to the shop tomorrow to get a quote anyways? Seems like it might be less than my $500 deductible. Any guesses?

Really did not want to spend money on this right now. Eff you fail driver.

I'd go to the junkyard and look for a replacement mirror, but being a relatively new car, it could be difficult. Go get a quote, I'd expect it considerably under $500.

those mirrors are like $30-$50 online
More than just the mirror. The whole thing is smashed and the mirror panel is twisted and damaged. Not a car guy really but I expect the motor back there is damaged too.

Sorry, should have described it a bit better.

Okay then, take it to a shop, get someone to look at it. I really don't think it'll be more than your deductible.

Does indeed look like 30-50 for the whole assembly at RockAuto...

Really? Huh. I mean, I am an engineer, I'm sure I could handle it. Just don't spend much time on my car.

Going to look into it, thanks. I'll be back with questions, I'm sure.

edit: Question 1 - TYC or Sherman, any difference? I will be selling this car in about 6 months so as long as it looks okay I don't care much.

Alright, I pried off the corner door panel thing, this is going to be stupid easy. Looks like a single 10mm bolt and a simple electrical connection that resembles a 4-pin connector. It would be tough to screw this up. Ordered one of those on rockauto...thanks guys.

Had something similar happen to my '03 ford escort. My deductible was $500, the mirror was ~$100 through the dealership. Didn't file a claim and paid for it out of pocket.

Unless you have some extensive electronics in the mirror (heated, LED turn signals, powered, etc) it will probably be less than $500 to replace and get installed.

Well that was frustrating. More of a pain than I expected, but mostly I'm annoyed that the mirror doesn't match. Well, it matched, but it's missing a light at the bottom, which isn't a big deal. What is a big deal is the fact that the electrical connection doesn't match. Ugh. Hopefully the dealership doesn't notice when I turn it in, but I'm sure they will.

^ the might not. Assuming its lease type of car. They rarely do check operation of everything since it SHOULD still be under warranty and they will just take it back do w/e to make a CPO type of car.

The mirror not working is not something they can prove you did. As long as it PHYSICALLY looks good i think your in the green, the missing light depends on how obvious it is. Many people overlook small things like if a car has puddle lights or turn signal lights. Dealerships are more focused on the DENTS and dings.

Where did you get it changed? If you get a detailed lease inspector like I had, he might notice. They checked all the controls on the radio, lights, turn signals and mirrors when I had my lease return inspection.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yea...............................................................................

Side mirror assemblies are cheap.

The ENTIRE thing should be $100 or less.
