Some clarification on retiring an eMail.

If an eMail is retired in to another, does the accumulated block production also fold in to the new eMail? And, if the clients are still set up with the old address, is that current production automatically credited to the new address?

The accumulated blocks do go to the new email. When I retired an email, I didn't temp the gods, so I set up the new one first, then changed the clients and flushed out the old blocks before I retired it.

I also want to retire an account but I do not have easy access to all the computers that crack under this account. If I retire this account is there any problem if I don't change the e-mail to all the clients?

Remember too that after a while the old e-mail address will not work anymore.
So after a while the blocks won't be sent to the new e-mail address but
it does give you some time to check all your clients.

From my understanding, all blocks retired from an old e-mail will always be forwarded to the new e-mail address. That is also why there is an 8 e-mail limit as it irreversible once it has been retired. I've got e-mails that have been ritired more than 4 months and I haven't been able to change the client. Still going!

Enginner, are you absolutely sure that the old email will work forever? I have a friend off at college with an Athlon 800 that is the &quot;core&quot; of my stats, which flushes every 3 days. He's using the old address. I'm guessing distributed has an email alias - like program set up to alias the newer email address from the old one.

No, not 100% sure....The only people that could answer that for sure is the D.net folks..! Blocks are still working correctly for me though...Also, if it were not, the 8 e-mail limit would be lifted every so often as an e-mail dropped off. Anybody know 100% for sure?

<< No, the stats server has a feature for this situation. What you can do is &quot;retire&quot; your old address into your new address. This will completely and permanently remove your old email address from the stats server and attribute all of its activity to your new email address. This way you can gracefully migrate from one email address to another without losing all your blocks.

To do this, you need a couple things:

You need to know the password for the email you wish to retire
You need to configure your clients to use your new email address
Your new email address must appear in the stats database

Once all those things are in place, you simply visit the configuration page for the old email, and click the retire link. The script will walk you through the procedure of selecting your new email address and performing the retire.


There is now a limit of 8 retired email addresses. Please read this other answer for information about this: Why can't I retire more than 8 email addresses into one?

In addition, any new work that is submitted to your old address after you retire it will be credited to your new address. No work will be &quot;lost&quot; by retiring your accounts.
