I spent that on gas for the boat last week but you don't hear me embarresing myself by bragging about it. Shoulda Listened to dad...flys, fusks or floats RENT IT!
You seem to see my point though that it's all relative, which is why I brought it up.

Off topic: I thought my father was an idiot until I was about 21 and been living on my own a few years at which point he some how became incredibly intelligent and wise, he must have been taking smart pills or somethin' ;)

Haha:) Experiance beats youth...always.

I just use DVDShrink now so I'm not really encoding anymore, but I used to do a ton of it with DVD2SVCD and CCE and I would have loved a P4c then. My son is coming up on his 4th b-day and backing-up the DVD collection is wise if you don't want to run the risk of him nuking some. I'm also going to be converting all the VHS-c video I have of him so that will be some serious encoding. I'm going to pick-up a digital camcorder to make that easier in the future. You must have a better method for filming the kids than I've used in the past to avoid encoding. I'm slow but I'm learning as I go.

No I'm slower. Still have the 1995 sony (hi8) camcorder we got with the first one. Now you've done it...need to put all those acromyns into google and see what i've been missing. These forums are terrible for my frugal mind, thanks a lot.:)

Your in the same boat as me then, no pun intended :p You are going to have to capture it, convert it, and burn it to DVD=time consuming. CCE is Cinema Craft Encoder which is the encoder I used with DVD2SVCD which did exactly wht the name implies. My 1999 JVC VHS-C camcorder is definitely dated and it's time for a firewire digital model. I agree these damned forums make me spend money too! At least there's hot deals to keep it within reason ;)

It's a never ending struggle to keep up that I sometimes take the approach "if it anit broke don't fix it". I could embaress myself further with all the money I've put Hi-fi, replacing components, gettting the latest DD reciever, subwoofer etc but she might be reading and I have my own little secret fund.;) Anyway we have about 80-100 Hi8 laying about and luckly both the TV and the VCR has RCA really convienant right up front so I really never thought about going digital. What are the benefits?

Found a good Site on the dvd2svd.. Why firewire over USB2 on the new comcorder?

check it out

Nice setup:)

But you should only count the cpu, ram, mobo, vid card which is way less than 2k.

Anyway I did this so the guys can see just how fast a COMP can be for minimal fundage. And maybe make an informed purchasing decision if they so choose. Simply showing the best bang for the buck right now for overclockers.

Anandtechs overclocking Guide, while well written and still rock solid, I think made some decisions I would'nt like. It won't offer smoking performance because they crippled it with a midrange card. In addition they added $40 to the MOBO price when the shuttle is a rock and ABIT nf7-s has some issues latly. They also used a 2500 Barton instead of the 2600 for only $7 more which all seem to get 2500MHZ @ less than 1.75Vcore unlike thier 2500 counterparts.

In sum just trying to be of service :)

BTW your 64bit cpu smokes the Barton in aquamark 8554 vs 9979, by almost 18% AND it's running 200Mhz slower!! Just like DAPUNSHIER said/shown it would. OC that vid card and I bet you'll break 53000.

jpeyton,
That's a sweet deal Maxtor 160GB/7200RPM/8MB for $30.

Is it ATA 100 or 133 and do they have any more for sale?

You cant really call that a "$400 setup". But yes the mobiles are nice.

I do find it funny that you make fun of 3dmark, yet you use it to show the speed of a system.

I read Firewire usually has higher throughput, is peer-to-peer instead of master/slave, and being peer-to-peer can transfer video straight to a digital TV for instance while the USB requires the PC to interface with . the benefit of digital is you can capture the video through your USB or IEEE 1394 ports which most boards now have instead of needing an analog capture device such as a vid card with VIVO to do it. Also, hooking the camcorder to the TV/VCR is a poor method of sending copies of the family videos to relatives ;)

Bah we all call it that since it's not a real life test but an emulation. Just a joke.

It was a Staples substitution deal about a month back. Big thread at Fatwallet.

All if not most Maxtor hard drives being sold @ retail outlets are ATA 133 compliant, even my old Maxtor D740X bought back in 2001 was ATA 133 capable. Difference between ATA 133 and 100 is simialar to 8x AGP to 4x which performance wise is extremely small.

EDIT: excluding external, SATA, & SCSI drives
