ROFL
It's a line from The Simpsons.
An episode where Lisa becomes a tree-sitter in order to please a "great" environmental activist who claims to not eat anything that casts a shadow :)

Nope. These are the kind of people who think irony is like rain on your wedding day.

Aw come on give the girl a break. She's no great entertainer but Alanis cannot be held solely responsible for a loose usage of ironic.

i·ro·ny Pronunciation Key (r-n, r-)
n. pl. i·ro·nies

1)The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect. See Synonyms at wit1.

2)Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: ?Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated? (Richard Kain).
An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity

Her usages fit into this defintion albeit barely.

Wood is a renewable resource. The original old growth is not. You can replant trees but you can't recreate the total environment that existed before it was logged. Many if not most conservationist's do not want people to stop using all wood. They want better usage practices. At least that's my understanding of it. I'm no activist. Christ I can barely get off my ass to mow my yard with my gas mower.....

<< These forest will never recover. Once they are gone they are gone forever >>

Ummm forgive my ignorance but aren't trees something that GROW and thus are a renewable resource? If a forest fire incinerates a bunch of trees is the patch of forest lost FOREVER?
>>

Yes the forest are grown. But they will not recover naturally to the state that they were in for many reasons. A few of them are: other species move in, erosion, climate change due to the logging, .... Do a little hiking in an area that has been logged even 150 years ago and it will be no where near recovery. Some old growth trees take 2,500 years to grow. Now think of growing a whole forest of trees from the tangle of trees and bushes that grows out of a cut.

this reminds me of the lady who was always lobbying to repeal motorcycle helmet laws. troopers said if she was wearing a helmet, she would have survived the crash
