Ok, i have decided tp upgrade mt old 4X, ive pretty much decided on what to get i just wanted your opinions. My budget is 160-170 Canadian. These are my options:

NEC NR-7700A 12X10X32 CDRW JUSTLINK INT. IDE OEM : $ 150.29
AOPEN 1232A 12X10X32 CDRW JUST LINK : $168.37
LG CED-8120BB CDRW 12X8X32 INT EIDE ATAPI W/ SW OEM : 144.24

I've pretty much decided on the NEC beacuse it has justlink and is cheaper than the aopen, the LG has no burnproof/justlink. Who makes the NEC drive? i have herd its a rebadged Ricoh, is this true? and is it any good? thanks.

It may be a rebadged ricoh like the aopen which I know is...

Look into the deal a bit more...the nec is labelled an oem and may not come with any burning software and lower warranty...the aopen appears to be the retail pack which comes with nero 5.0 (upgraded to 5.5 for free) cables, cd-r&cd-rw disc, norton ghost program, 3 year warranty, etc.

Stay clear of the lg drives (friend had bad experience with their drives in past) I don't know if they are a rebadged anything or whether they have burnproof...

i never heard of NEC burner, so i would stay away
I know LG make crap DVD player, don't know about their burner
Aopen seem to be the best bet here
why don't you try liteon 12x10x40x for like $93us at newegg
it has burn proof
alot of people has it, i heard it not too bad

Sony spressa's and HP 9510 can be had for less than 200cdn. They're good quality or consider a used plex but if your budget is less than 200 be careful of some of those and try some reviews out. Try www.CanadaComputes.com as they had a review of burners a year ago or maybe www.monitor.ca as they reviewed a couple burners lately(higher end ones though)

When I got my first HP a year ago the best were considered to be Sony,Hp and Plex.

Isn't that Aopen drive $100 at Newegg? That would probably be the way to go if you're set on Nero.

Look, everything made by HP is crap. CHEAP CRAP. Don't waste your money. I would rather buy a unknown brand with no lable than to waste any money on a HP.

Blackhawk, get a grip: "...the best were considered to be...Hp". Give me a break. Considered by who? Lunitics? Or people trying to unload their pile of HP's that they couldn't even sell?!?!

I currently have a Phillips 8x4x32 ($60), which is the BEST CDRW I have ever owned, and I've owned them all, IDE & SCSI. HP, Plextor, Ricoh, Sony, and even a Smart & Friendly that was actually a Yamaha. All crap after about 250 disks or so, some sooner (many HP's, which would fail after 30 days!).

It's just hype. Don't buy that crap. Plextors are good drives, but you can get identical performance from a cheaper drive.

Whatever. I've owned two HP Cd burners and never had a coaster. Bought a 16x Plextor a week ago and I've already had 1 coaster. There is nothing wrong with HP burners.

If you say you never had a coaster with a HP, you either haven't written ANY disks, or you, my friend, are a liar. Besides, 99% of writing problems are operator error, right?

I have written plenty of disks and I am not a liar. Why the hell would I lie about it? Get a grip.

I'm with Flashram, Boobers. My HP has given me great service, can't say the same for the Yamaha I had before it.

well i got an NEC NR 7700A. That is a nice drive. The only problem i have is cdrwin doesnt support this drive. It couldnt recognize it ...maybe later on will. For those 3 i will choose aopen, cause aopen is supported by many burning software too. SO with just 10 bucks different , i will choose Aopen.

i loved my HP 9310 when I had it, yes it made coasters but not to often.

I adore my new cendyne (rebadged TEAC) that i got in that CrapUSA deal.

Make sure u have a drive with burnproof or something close to it.
