Some basic (noob) questions

I have four computers sitting at my house that I leave on 24-7 so I am looking for some advice...

Can I run more than one DC app/service?

Will the fact that they are all running on the same cable modem be an issue?

Would it help on my beefier machines to run Virtual Server and run several VMs each running the DC apps/services?

Will these work with Vista?

Thanks.

Yes, you can run more than one DC app/service!

No, the same cable modem won't be a problem!

No, that wouldn't help, as the DC apps would have to share the available CPU power in the VMs. Once DC app per core is a rule of thumb.

Some should work with Vista.

My tip would be for you to take a look into our welcome thread right here in the forums and then come back to us and ask whatever question you want to ask, about setup, project choices, and whatever comes to your mind.

Welcome to the DC forum, BucNews 🙂

You can join one or many DC projects.

You will have no issue with the cable modem.

I don't think it will help to run Virtual Server. If you have dual (or more) cores/CPUs you should just run one DC project (or client) per core. (Although Folding@Home does have a client that will use multiple cores, it is still in open beta testing)

If you try to run many projects/clients on one core they all will just run slower. (HyperThreaded P4s can be an exception with some clients)
