whenever idiots like that pull that twice, i just back off and let another car do the job of tailgating him, then when they are busy attempting to kill each other, i speed away when there's a free lane

i'm sure this happens to you often

'02 Focus SE Sedan (SPI engine)

OMG IT'S GOT AN SPI ENGINE!?!?!?!?!?!?

Don't try to make your focus sound like it's something good.

Uhhhh, actually, the SPI is the crappy one. Not something you generally advertise. I was assuming that someone was going to call my ability to reach the cited speeds into question, so that's why I got specific.

And yet, you ragged on my Zetec-lump Focus last time we "discussed" this.
Anyone want a link to EyeMWing claiming he hit 150mph in his 2.0-litre Focus?

I can, downhill with a tailwind and the transmission sitting in neutral (oops, did I just reveal my dirty little hax?)

And your Zetec still sucks.

And yet you said you were burning the clutch in the TFNN thread. Huge shens.
What's the terminal velocity for your car? 120mph?
It's absolute bullshit that you got 155mph out of a 2.0 Focus. The only time I'm ever going to believe you on this is with a video of you doing 155mph.

Oh, and the Zetec engine > your crappy SPI engine, anytime, anywhere.

It's the only time I've ever made an automatic reek of clutch. Needless to say, it's not a feat I'd ever like to repeat.

So, which is it? Neutral, or in gear? Complete horseshit or complete horseshit?

Hm, I've been @ 140 in a friend's 2.0 focus.

Downhill, tail wind, the works.

But 155 with 3 passengers, don't know =/

An indicated 140mph will be something like 125mph "real" speed. If you have someone with a GPS unit, at a constant speed that'll give you an accurate reading. It works, because I go past 60mph speed cameras at 64mph and have never had a ticket.

I still maintain that he's a lying douche though.

Lol, brave for the sake of research  😛

everyone who can drive knows that the proper way to pass is to hang back far enough to get a running start at the target car. that way you drastically minimize the time you spend in the oncoming lane. if you'd just driven like you had a brain, all this could have been avoided.

I propose that you gentlemen settle this in the only truly gentlemanly way to do so--a race around the globe!

So basically, your story is that you pissed off some lunatic by tailgating him for a few miles. Right? Wouldn't it have been easier just to leave a few car lengths and enjoy the scenery? Hell, pull over for a second and let one of the people behind you annoy him.

 I never tailgate when I want to pass someone. I hang back and time my acceleration so I can move over just after the last car passes on the opposite side of the road, that way I'm going as fast as possible when I move over and can spend as little time as possible on the opposite side of the road.

that's how I do it too... people always ask me why I am so far back if i'm trying to go slow... imo it gives me more room for error... some people don't see it that way

Count me in, too. I don't understand why the OP tailgated as a means of passing. Like the OP said several times: all he could see was a trailer hitch. No kidding! Back the heck off so you can at least see your way around!

A few inconsistencies like this lead me to believe we're missing approximately 48.2% of the story.
