FIRST, I do not want this to turn into a racist post.

I found this interesting recording of Howard Stern, showing how some African American citizens are voting for Obama because he is also African American.

They asked people on the street if they like Obama, and suggested some of "his" policies, using actual McCain's policies, and they said they like Obama for that and are voting for him because of that.

So honestly, these people are already bias, not caring for the important stuff and caring more about ethnicity.

if black turn-out surges this year, it seems like a reasonable assumption that it surged because Obama self-identifies as black.

however, increased african american turn-out or not, I think Obama's got it in the bag and it's not like there's a significant amount of AA's voting republican (what was it in 2004, 93% - 7%?)

Exactly. I am sure the OP could find more than a handful of people voting for McCain because he isn't black. Works both ways.

I think this IS a racist post, because nowhere in there does it suggest race is the factor. Black people vote overwhelmingly Democratic most of the time, and people also generally tend to be ignorant of the actual issues or the stances candidates take on them. I bet if you tried the same trick with a bunch of country fried good old boys in Texas, swapping McCain's and Obama's policies, you'd get a similar pro-McCain reaction. Should we assume that this is because they are white and so is McCain?

Like I said, this is a race baiting issue, because there seems to be very little evidence to back the accusation up. And it seems especially hypocritical consider the number of white people who seem to NOT be voting for Obama because he's black.

Many blacks are voting for Obama because of his skin. Maybe whites are voting for McCain because of Obama's skin. I have no idea if it's a wash either way. I doubt it, but I don't know which side is ultimately favored.

I think it was 88% for Kerry. If all the other groups hold, his black vote increase will be on par with other categories.

You're right, because there are no white people voting for McCain because Barack Bin Laden Osama Obama is muslim, right?

It couldn't be because he relates to them, especially as a young guy who was heading down a typical drug type of path who got it together and is not running for president of the US?

I mean, voting for people who might give you hope or share some of your life issues would never make sense. A better question, is why are so many black people part of the drug and failure culture that Obama escaped from?

To put in perspective, its like rednecks who voted for clinton em masses, for ranchers who self identitified with Bush, ect ect ect. The only reason this is racial is because he is Black, if the "white culture" was a culture of drugs, giving up, and failure en masse, no one would question if they are voting for someone who is white. They relate to the guy, if you read his books you realise how close he came to being a "typical black man" but escaped that and is now running for POTUS.

You people need to try looking at the entire picture instead of focusing on one aspect, his skin color.

And THAT is the real test here. Pointing out that black people will vote for a black Democrat proves very little because the vast majority of black people would vote for the Democratic candidate anyways, white or black. Something tells me that black Republicans don't get such preferential treatment.

When African Americans can rationally stomach the virtues of McCain, the OP on this thread might have a point, failing a single OP demonstrated reason why McCain should not be seen as a clueless idiot by the
black demographic, I have to ask why Blacks would be inspired to vote for McSame. I am not brand X, and happen to be Caucasian white, but I see no appeal in McCain either. So the thesis of this thread is slight.

And women are recently polled 51% for Obama/Biden, 40% for McCain/Palin. So much for the gender factor.

I know some women who would have voted for hilary just because she is a female. People will find all sorts of stupid reasons to vote for a candidate (whether or not that candidate has merit), and voting for Obama because he is black is just as bad as voting for Obama because he isn't black. I know others who look at how the candidates talk for five minutes and judge their personalities - the issues need not apply. When people have the freedom to vote in a stupid manner, they will most certainly exerscise that right to do so. Its one of the flaws of mass democracy.

I'd bet that there are more racist people in the south voting against Obama because of his skin color than there are black people in the entire country voting for Obama only because of his skin color.
