ok, its my brother upgrading, not me.
just asking for some advice here.
hes got a old BX board (abit BE6 2 to be specific) and a p2 cpu with 2 stick of PC100 SD Ram.combine with a nice and old TNT! eheh.
anyway.
he is not looking into an upgrade.
and i've make my mind up to upgrade to AMD since they provide cheap and GOOD processor (myself uses AMD too)
now what i am deciding is, should i get DDR ram with motherboard (like AMD 761 or VIA KT266) or just plain KT133 A without getting new memory??
this computer will last about 2 years or longer.
however, he usually use it for some games, and some photoshop (not really professinal ones).
will there really a need for him to upgrade to DDR RAM>??
and should he keep the PC 100 memory too?? and save money for later?
thx

KT133A use PC133 memory, unless you want to run it at 100Mhz.
I would get DDR since the memory price is cheap right now.

KT133A FSB runs at 100Mhz but the memory speed can be run at 133Mhz.
As for DDR board, get an AMD761. I currently use Epox 8K7A+ for my computer.

Ram is really cheap, so I'd go DDR with an AMD760 motherboard (Epox or MSI) and a T-Bird with 266mhz FSB.

I got 256MB DDR from Crucial for $45 free shipping, can't beat that.
Plus DDR gives 133MHz throughout the system - good for gaming and
photoshop.

If he doesn't want to spend too much money upgrading to a AMD761-
based MB, say, Epox 8K7A+, and he's not considering overclocking
then go for the single-chipset SiS solution as in ECS K7S5A MB for
$62.5 from cdrexpress.com plus shipping. The money he saves from
not buying a AMD761 MB will buy him a faster Athlon and probably a
faster graphics card. Again, that's better for, yes, gaming and
photoshop apps.

go w/ the DDR. it'll definitely make it easier for your brother in case he wanted to upgrade in the future. the old PC-100 SDR try to sell it, cause memory is very cheap now ;)
