Thanks all for the help. it did turn out to be a grounding issue

After putting everything together I got my new build to POST with ease. The only problem was that I couldn't get either of my PATA devices detected. While fiddling around with master/slave settings, I somehow lost the ability to POST. Now, when I press the power button on the case, the CPU fan doesn't spin and nothing makes any noise except for the power supply, which seems to turn on (it's fan spins). Even with no PATA devices attached at all, I'm having the same problem. Furthermore, since it has POSTed I doubt that it is a bad part that is causing the problem. I've checked all the connections and nothing appears to be loose. One thing I did notice when the PC was POSTing was that sometimes if you moved it from upright to on its side it wouldn't want to start up until I shifted a few wires around/organized them. I imagine one of them must have been touching somewhere on the MOBO it shouldn't have? Anyhow, I'm at a loss as to how the PC suddenly decided to stop POSTing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Mitch.

It could have been the wires causing a ground out, but it's my guess that the mobo is grounding out against the case...while shifting the wires around, you probably bumped the mobo around just enough so it was no longer touching something it wasn't supposed to touch.
