I finally tracked down the problem to my IDE DVD drive and VIA IDE driver.
Fortunately, I have a SCSI CDRW drive, and I was able to install games with the drive without any system crash.
With the IDE DVD drive, I first had the ver4.28, then manually installed Win9X drive in 4.29.
I'll try to uninstall the VIA IDE drive then try to install another game, then let you know the result.
