Have read all I could find on the Asus site and forums till my eyes are bleeding

The board has 4 slots... opinions are all over the place .... 2 sets of 2x8 gigs even in a matched set willna/may not work, etc, etc

2 x 16 gigs works... no it wont... look on Asus site ..... they have not tested all memory nor updated, etc, etc

It is an old board but low miles, fast ta me.... ( retired mu Phenom II )

Which RAM kit are you considering or have?

4x8GB works fine on Z77 but may not be stable with some kits (Corsair is a frequent culprit. Other cheaper brands may also pose this issue). Kingston and Crucial usually work fine.

2 x 16GB??? I don't think I've seen 16GB DDR3 desktop DIMMs anywhere so the ones you found are probably for servers and no, they won't work in a desktop mobo.

Yeah, the largest capacity regular non ECC UDIMMs I have seen for DDR3 were 8GB I think. I think 4x8GB is fine with Z77. Corsair or Gskill should be fine as well. Just important to get very similar kits, as in same timings and frequency, and of course voltage.
