AMD Athlon X2 3800+
Seasonic S12 500Watt
EVGA 7800GT

So i get home from school today and walk up to my room to find my computer off.

I press the power button and nothing happens. I try turning the power switch on the back of the computer off and then on, still nothing. I then open the computer up and the Standby light is blinking and the RAM LED is not on.

So i disconnect everything from the system and try. Still the light blinks. So i rip out the power cord and the 4 Pin connector. I plug them back in and i get a second of whirring fans before everything goes dead again. So i turn off the power in the back, unplug the PSU and then unplug the ATX cables. I then plug everything in and it starts up. I went into the BIOS and all the voltages are fine, and everything is working.

So i shut down and tried to turn it back on to make sure. The Standby LED which was solid once again, begins to blink when i hit the power button. So i disconnect and reconnect all the power cords again. Again it starts up but refuses to do it a second time.

So not knowing what is going on a do it again, and this time i dont get any video. I haven't touched anything else, but i dont have Video anymore.

Its like my computer is slowly killing itself or something. I dont have any other boards that are PCI-E, nor do i have another PCI-E card. I also dont have an other 939 boards to test my processor on.

What is going on here???

Easiest first step is to try another/new power supply.

It could be a short somewhere. It could be a blown component.

If you don't have another PSU to test, unplug all the power connectors from everything but the motherboard (and video if need be) and try again.

Well i have another PSU, but it isn't a 24 pin connector, and i dont have PCI-E connectors for my video card.

I think i have a dongle for the PCI-E connector, but what about the 24 pin connector.

Well this is rather pathetic.

My PSU blew....my brand spankin, top o the line Seasonic S12 PSU blew. So now i am running off of a POS Tt 420Watt, which is amazing. All of my really nice OCZ and Seasonic PSU's have gone once, yet this little Tt keeps holding the fort (rather noisily) while they are gone.

So now, i have a dongle for my Video Card, i am running a 20 Pin ATX cable in a 24 Pin connector....

Should i go through Seasonic for an RMA or should i try newegg first?

sometime in this semester i read you have a year from your original purchase to be able to rma a replacement at the egg. so give it a whirl with them, since they have a very decent customer service.

Wow, Newegg didn't even take the time to read over it. I clicked the button and was immediately issued an RMA number.

Since it has been a while, do i just put the PSU in the original box and send it back. Or should i look around for any accessories it came with?

Real quick, do you guys think it was a problem with the PSU in the first place or do you think that something could potentially happen again?

I am willing to bet PSU problem unless you are not on a UPS and there was a power problem.
And in regards to the packaging, most companies want ONLY the defective part, as when you receive one, you USUALLY only receive that part again. Not always but most of the time they just want the item. You might want to confirm before you ship.

Maybe you should just settle on a nice every-day Antec... seems them big-name nich PSUs are failing you! :p

Sucks, I know... I hate when a computer goes TU. Usually with me it's a MB that fries for differing reasons.

Good luck.

Only PSU I've ever had fail on me was an Antec :p

I've had an X-connect, Vantec ION, OCZ Modstream, and a Sparkle (no problems with any of these)

I think just getting another S-12 will be fine, that is either a problem with your power in your house (less likely) or just bad luck.

No doubt an S12 will be fine, i was just worried if something on the outside (ie a power surge, even though i am connected to a surge protector) is the problem.
