Howdy,

I just installed the Pentium Pro Overdrive processor on my old Dell Optiplex GXpro machine. It had a pentium pro 200. I purchased the 333mhz overdrive processor. It went in just fine, but the problem is the BIOS only sees it as a 133mhz machine.

Since this is a linux box, I cant run something like wcpuid. Is there a linux alternative to it? The only thing that I can think of is the bogomips, which I get 660 on with the overdriver processor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

How about running a benchmark.

Compile the kernel or something - time the OverDrive over the Pentium Pro. If the OverDrive is better, you have a pretty easy case, regardless of what the BIOS says.

You *DO* have the latest BIOS ... right? :)

Yes, I have the latest bios.

I think it is running at the correct speed, it just bothers me the bios sees it as a 133.

I get 660 bogomips. Is that about right for a 333mhz machine?

Just run cat /proc/cpuinfo from the command line. That should tell you stepping, speed, model, cache size and so on. It's funny, I just had a friend ask me about a Pentium Pro overdrive CPU so he could play the latest Myst game. Anyway, good luck to ya.
