I've had this build for about 6 months with no problems:
Xeon E3110 @3.6ghz
Asus HD4850
Mushkin 2x1gb PC2-6400
Corsair 450VX
MSI P6NGM-L Micro Atx
Samsung Spinpoint series 500gb

When I boot up i get 8 beeps total and nothing appears on the monitor. I looked up the bios code for 8 beeps for MSI mobos and apparently this means its either a video card or memory issue. I am pretty sure it is a graphics card issue because I accidently put a lot of stress on the cable connecting the monitor to the graphics card just right before experiencing the malfunction. Upon close inspection there is no physical damage on the cable, gaphics card, motherboard or monitor. I removed the graphics card from the pci slot and I still get the beeps I haven't tried switching out the memory because these are the only two compatible memory sticks I have.

<I will update this after lunch when I call MSI>

status:
graphics card: works
cpu: works
soundcard: works (no OS booting sounds from ubuntu)
HDD: works
motherboard: 8 beeps, onboard graphics not working

I'm stunned. I didn't contact technical support BUT I fixed it. Upon reading that 6 beeps means there is a keyboard controller problem I began to think well maybe the first 2 beeps are just the normal post beeps and the 6 following were the error. I unplugged my usb keyboard and my external HDD and I had visual again!!! :D But then it shows an error message saying that my overclock failed and as I'm puzzled I insert a regular keyboard into the peripheral input (don't remember what its called) as my usb keyboard was unresponsive and the computer went to the boot menu to my surprise. It works perfectly, so I tried to insert my usb keyboard again and it works. Now as I think about it, it seems that the external powered-by-usb HDD overpowered my usb controller or something.

This is the MSI beep code that help me solve this problem:
1 short DRAMS refresh failure
2 short Parity circuit failure
3 short Base 64k RAM failure
4 short System timer failure
5 short Process failure
6 short Keyboard controller Gate A20 error
7 short Virtual mode exception error
8 short Display memory Read/Write test failure
9 short ROM BIOS checksum failure
10 short CMOS shutdown Read/Write error
11 short Cache Memory error
1 long, 3 short Conventional/Extended memory failure
1 long, 8 short Display/Retrace test failed

Wow, I was really about to purchase a new mobo and some other stuff!! I thought this thing was toast lol. Funny thing is that I read like 5 other posts on different forums with the same issue unsolved I should go link them my post.

P.S. after the bios automatically reverting my overclock back down to fsbx1333 I brought it back up to 1600(btw highest working/stable OC) and am now using my external usb with its AC adapter.
