Okay. I got the K7VTA3 w/2200+. Everything seemed to install perfectly but for the last few hours then im completely stuck with 2 problems (that are probably related).

Problem 1:
In my device manager i have 6 "unknown devices" that i have no clue as to what they are referring to. They all just pop up one after another at boot. How am i supposed to find out what these things are? If i try updating the drivers with the disk, uninstalling them or anything then i just get hung up. So i have 6 devices that have me lost.

Problem 2:
Onboard sound doesnt work. The device "seems" installed properly but no audio and apps tell me i have no soundcard. I disabled this and popped in my live card and even that thing is running into no sound problems.

So does anyone have any clues on where to start? Is there a trick to find out what "unkown device" i should be looking for? Because its been 4 hours and im getting nowhere.

EDIT: Gave up and started over. Everything got recognized this time so all is good.

How 'bout installing the drivers for all these "unknown device"s first? Fat chance your audio equipment is among them. You got a drivers disk with the board for a reason, y'know.

well, that was my question. how are you supposed to know what "unknown device" is? as for using the drivers disk, of course ive done that already. it says so in the original post. anyway, instead of trying to push out the smug answers then just ignore the thread. itll help more people out.

The trick is you don't need to know. The driver disk is to be inserted straight at first boot, before you let Windows search for drivers on all those unknown devices and fail.
After you've missed that opportunity and ended up with unknown devices, you can still make Windows rescan the CD for drivers manually - without having to know what each of these actually is. Go to device manager, right-click on the unknown device, click "reinstall driver" whilst the driver CD is in the drive, sorted.

Those unknown devices might be your audio devices and USB2.0 devices. Install drivers for bouth audio and USB. This is a great stable mobo and I never had any problems. Good luck.
