Bought an oem copy of win7 from compusa for $99 like 6 months ago. Replaced a MB is there a way to get a new key or transfer?

When you reach the activation screen, select activate by phone. It should prompt you to select the option for replacing the motherboard

For an OEM copy of Windows, no, they do not have transfer rights. For a retail version, SwiftWind's advice would work.

Call them anyway. You have nothing to lose but perhaps 15 mins of your life. Hopefully you'll be answered by a nice rep.

I've never had trouble reinstalling OEM versions of Windows, even after the hardware was changed. Just enter in the same key during setup and reactivate online.

If you have to use phone activation, it normally gives you the code without any hassle. It might ask you how many computers you've installed that copy of Windows on; answer 1 and that's all. If you get a person, they will just ask you the same question. I doubt you'll have any issues.

Well guys I guess the trick is to til after 6 pm. I called today at 12 and talked to lady in the states, she lept telling me its tied to the motherboard... Yada yada! I called again at 6pm, but this time I kno I got someone over seas, India I think. Within ten minutes she gave me a new activation key, done deal. I was quite surprised how easy it was, compared to my earlier conversation. I'd strongly recommend anybody in this situation to call after 6. Btw prior to all this I called about a week ago, again rep was from India. Told him I was changing my motherboard and he told me call back after the new motherboard and we will give me an activation key.
