SOLVED- How to switch from single to multi cpu Win XP Pro?

One of my systems running Seti had a mini meltdown so I had to do a repair.
Now it only sees one cpu, this is a P4 HT MACHINE AND ht is enabled in bios.
Is there some way to change it so it sees 2 'cpu's?

1st what did you fix? 2nd do a cntl-alt-del and check your performance tab and see if it shows 2 cpus. 3rd have you gone to your hardware manager and scanned for hardware changes?

its definitly running the single proc HAL

I will try the scan.

Did an Upgrade reinstall with my slipstreamed SP2 XP Pro, all my old apps are still intact but it defaulted to the single cpu version. I've reinstalled SP3 and the MS updates.

If the scan doesn't work, try this:

Installing Support for Multiple CPUs

Click Start, point to Settings, point to Control Panel, and then click System.

Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

Double-click to expand the Computer branch. Note the type of support that you currently have.

Double-click the computer type that is listed under the Computer branch, click the Drivers tab, click Update Driver, and then click Next.

Click Display a list of known drivers for this device, and then click Show all hardware of this device class.

Click the appropriate computer type (do not change from non-ACPI to ACPI computer types), click Next, and then click Finish.

HAL.......................Description

ACPI MultiProc........Use for a multiple-processor ACPI computer

ACPI UniProc..........Use for a ACPI multiple-processor board but with a single processor installed

Advanced...............Use for a single processor motherboard with single Configuration processor ACPI computer Power Interface PC

Compaq Systempro.....Use for a Compaq Systempro computer

MPS Uniprocessor PC...Use on non-ACPI computers dual processor motherboard with a single processor installed

MPS Multiproc PC........Non-ACPI computers with a dual processor running

Standard PC..............Any Standard PC, non-ACPI, or non-MPS. Could be a 386, 486, Pentium, Pentium II, or Pentium III

Standard PC with C-Step i486

Thanks, I already tried that - first thing I did was search the MS Knowledgebase and found that method. Trouble is only the ACPI I am currently using and Standard Computer appear in the list.

I'm pretty sure I remember doing this before, but it was long ago. I believe I had a thread on here about it at that time. I'll search the archive and see if its still here.

Interesting...

I went into bios & disabled Hyperthreading, then restarted and scanned for changes.
Then I restarted and went into bios and enabled hyperthreading and restarted and then scanned for hardware changes.
No difference under Computer > Advanced Configuration... (ACPI) Computer but...

Under Processors I now have two Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHZ listed - how about that? Weird huh? Task manager still only shows one cpu.

It ran, it said "One or more problems were detected".
It didn't say if it did anything about them.

(oh - and no changes, still running like a single cpu)

I ran the repair console again and specified /p /r and it said it repaired something.
Still no joy.

I reran the setup and did an upgrade reinstall and this time it installed the right HAL.

Out of curosity I had a look at mine XP, (I've got a single C2 quad) I have 'ACPI Multiprocessor PC' in the device manager. Different rule for quads??
