SOLVED! How do you setup local split-screen Multiplayer on the same PC?

SOLVED!!! For those interested see my 3rd post a little bit below for details.

----

I have a couple Steam games on the PC that I would like to play with friends by local split-screen multiplayer, just like if it was a gaming console. Do any of you have this setup and how did you arrange it?

Is there a way to use multiple keyboards and mice on the same PC? Or can this only be done with console controllers? If so which controllers would I need? Can PS3 controllers work?

Help appreciated, thanks

Where did you really see this was viable? Countless problems, the biggest being games don't differentiate more than 1 keyboard.

Ok well I know that at least with using controllers, PS3 and Xbox360 it can be done. Does anyone here have any experience in doing so?

The games have to be designed for it. It's not a matter of just plugging in devices. If the game doesn't have code to split screen and handle multiple input devices, it simply isn't possible. I know of only 1 game that I have that can do this, and that is Street Fighter 4 and I'm not even sure about that one.

SOLVED!!! Ok have several hours for tinkering I have managed to get my PS3 controllers to work over Bluetooth to my PC and I can confirm they are fully functional for Steam games that support it.

I got it to play local split-screen games like ScreenCheat and local Co-op like Trine 2 and it works beautifully. It was a frustrating but now that it is working it was totally worth it!

Thanks to those who tried to help. I ultimately found it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpSaOJJIun8 plus there were a couple additional steps required for my specific bluetooth adaptor the Asus BT-400.
