I am having difficulty burning DVD-Rs. It will go through the burn process without problems, but it will fail during verify. At first, I thought it was the drive so I RMA'd it, but I still have the same problem. I even installed a DVD burner from another computer.

I have:
changed the IDE cable
changed the IDE port
tried multiple brands of disks
burned at multiple speeds

I even installed a fresh copy of windows on my second HD to see if it was an OS problem. The only thing I haven't tried is a complete reformat.

At this point I am concluding that it may be a hardware problem on the motherboard, but every thing else seems to work correctly. Any other thoughts?

I was burning fine up until about a month ago.

Edit:

How much ram do you have?

What software are you using?

Have you tried disabling the verify part? It might be burning fine and failing verification for some other reason. Also, have you only tried one piece of software for burning?

My work laptop (Dell Inspiron 1100) has a funky DVD+R drive in it, it fails on the verification most of the time (burning with Nero) The strange thing is the files seem OK. I can often verify them successfully with another piece of software (I use a utility called UwiSoft Ufc32.exe (a little file and directoy compare utility.)

Also, at work I had a system that had this problem and uninstalling and re-installing the software (I think this one was using EZ CD Creator) was the solution ...

I used Nero and DVD Decrypter. I uninstalled and reinstalled both.

Could it be a power problem? I have a 300 watt Antec PSU with an Athlon 64 3400, 6800GT, 2 HDs (74GB Raptor and 250GB Maxtor), 1GB RAM and a SB 2ZS.

I hope its not a power problem as I cannot change the power because I jammed all this into an Antec Aria case.

Make sure you download the latest version of both pieces of software. You've got a pretty nice system, so that's not the problem.

What DVD burner are you using?

I have the latest versions of the software. I have tried both a NEC 2510 and a NEC 3520, same problem.

My motherboard is a DFI K8M800-MLVF.

that's very odd. maybe it's just the NEC series. I have a Pioneer 108 that works great, and the 109 just came out...you may want to try that.

I tried to burn a DVD on one of my other PCs. I havent use the PC in a while so I ran MS Updates and also installed the Update for Windows HighMAT Support. Well guess what, my second computer exhibited the same behavior as the first.

I went back to my first PC and removed HighMAT and low and behold, I can burn DVD-Rs again.

I dont know if this problem is well known or wide spread, but it happened on 2 of my pcs an A64 and an AXP. So be forewarned: DO NOT INSTALL THE HIGHMAT SUPPORT OPTION.

HIGHMAT has been installed on my AXP2500@3000-based comp since Nov 2003 w/out any issues with burning cds or dvds ...but also I'm not running sp2 either ;)
