Solved - Damn Modem drivers won't stay installed!

I have a Diamond Supra Express 56k ISA. Everytime I boot up, I try to logon...and it says that "The modem isn't responding..blah..blah..". I have to go into device manager, reboot, and have it auto install. I have tried updating the drivers..to no avail.

try looking in device manager in safe mode & see if you modem has ghost entries. delete them all if this is the case, reboot & reinstall drivers if asked!

I had the same problem with a Viking 56K ISA modem, turned out to be an IRQ conflict with my SB Live! that wasn't showing up in device manager.

How do I check on my IRQ's? I don't think its an IRQ conflict with my SBLive, but I guess it could be.

Right click on my computer. click on manage. Click on system information. Click on hardware resources and you will see irq's. This will tell you what componants share what irq's. You can also click on conflicts/sharing and this will tell you what your looking for.

According to windows, my modem is on IRQ 5 and nothing else is. How could this pose a problem? My GeForce 2 is sharing and IRQ with two other things though, my ATA/100 controller and my ACPI IRQ holder.

Well, all that is telling you is that it is not posing a problem. Not only that, I've never heard of an irq conflict eliminating drivers, because if it got rid of drivers, there would be no conflict.

I had a problem with my ISA modem. It was detected in device manager, but wouldnt dial. this was on my kt7a-raid, just so you know.

First go into your bios and make sure that your bios says that your irq for the modem is 5. if that agrees, then go to the place in your bios that gives you the choice to manually configure your irq's and make sure that options is enabled. Then go into your irq selection (in bios) and click on irq 5 and change that from ISA TO LEGACY ISA.

I'm not saying this will work for you (if I was even kinda clear) but after trying everything on mine, somebody on this forum walked me through this and that was the problem. I would never have figured that I would have to change irq my modem was on from ISA TO LEGACY ISA. And from the best of my understanding, it wasnt a mobo thing, it was a win 2k thing.

I will try that. The problem is in 98, not 2k

SiliconVandal, turn off sb emulation in device manager/creative misc. unless you've assigned a specific irq for that ISA card in bios then it will try using irq 5 which emulation defaults to!
you should also REM it from loading in autoexec.bat.

I already tried taking out out of DM, but it comes back. havn't tried disabling it, I will do that. I have it on REM in autoexec already. I will disabled and try.
