[SOLVED...?]crossing US/CAN border in rental car

I am an American citizen and I am going to Vancouver for a week.

Looking to take a day trip to Seattle to check it out. Is it possible to rent a car (from a Canadian enterprise, for instance) and take it across the border?

Maybe taking a different mode of transportation would be better - Boat? Amtrak?

Thoughts?

You are flying into Vancouver to drive across to Seatle?

You should be able to rent a car in Vancouver and drive over.
 
yeah work is paying to fly me to vancouver, i figured i'd be able to rent a car and drive down to seattle.

at the same time, i dont know for sure. is it legal? etc...
 
Just remember, as a US citizen, you have the right to cross back into the USA without stopping. If they TRY to stop you, that checkpoint has been taken over by terrersts...and you should put the pedal to the metal and crash through.

the reason i stated i was a US citizen is because i think it makes a difference, or at least from what i've gathered from the web, a canadian would not be able to rent a canadian vehicle and take it across. i am looking to see if anyone has had experience with this.

at any rate, i think you made a typo. by "terrersts," did you mean "terrerizers?"
 
The rental company I worked at charged a US travel fee. IIRC it was $10/day. Basically covers the cost of them going to get it if something happens. They'll also give you a signed document that gives you permission to take it over the border. I'm pretty sure this is standard but make sure you ask first.
 
There are issues regarding a Canadian resident renting a car in the USA and taking it to Canada, but none that I know of for the US.
 
Rental places in SoCal charge extra if the car goes to Mexico. Might want to ask if it's the same for rental cars crossing between North Mexico and the US.
 
I've gone the other way. US citizen, rented truck (from Enterprise, actually) and drove it into Canada. No issues or extra charges from Enterprise, but crossing into Canada was kinda sketchy. Sat in an office at the border crossing for an hour.
 
Yeah, I've rented in Seattle and drove to Vancouver. Answered about 20 questions on the Canukistanian side to get in, about 4 of them on the US side coming back over. No special fees or otherwise from Enterprise.

Who told you Canadians can't rent a Canadian vehicle and drive to states?
