*solved* any game from Orange Box won't run...

hi, just got the "physical" distribution of the Orange Box.

went home, installed, and neither of the games run.

right after I log on to Steam, I doubled clicked one of the 5 games... but none of them run. It will immediately return a Windows Error Message, saying HL2.exe encounter errors. The same old "Report to MS" or "Don't Send" error message box.

anyway, this is the first thing I installed on my fresh rig... with Win XP, 8600GT, Athlon X2, nforce 570 SLi, 2 gig ram. All chipset, audio, video drivers updated and installed.

any idea?

turned out, my rig was certainly too fresh ... I forgot to install DirectX 9.0c

I had to completely remove Steam and then reinstall. I had an old version installed apparently. After you uninstall delete the entire Steam/Valve directory.

Be sure to copy your SteamApp directory before you uninstall/delete unless you want to reinstall all your other games.
