I'm referring to people who come into Best Buy. Not forum people. But if people think downloading or automating SP2 is the same as using the disk, they need to wake up. I was meerly trying to give advice because this has solved all the problems we've had at the Geek Squad with SP2. BTW... The name calling didn't start with me. If you don't want to take my advice... fine whatever, no reason to start calling me stupid.

cough cough... gamingphreak... cough cough

If you were talking to people that aren't here at the forums, then why have you come here, to the forums, to tell us that you've solved all our problems for 30 dollars?

And you still haven't explained why Best Buy's SP2 is better then the ones you can get from the dowload package, automated install, or the free CD that we can order from MS.

Um actually its Gamingphreek .

Please point out to me where i called you stupid. I dont believe i ever did.

Now the internet install is the EXACT same thing that is on the CD. The internet install that WE automate is still the same exact thing. There is no difference. Where are you pulling some of this information from. Do explain what problems you guys might be having. So far SP2 seems to be going along very smoothly and solving a lot of probllems (yes it opens new ones also).

Also everyone else is right it is the same version everyone else gets. If you dont like it why dont you order yourself a free CD from microsoft.

Also does that mean you bring 20-30 PC's to bestbuy everyday to have them updated.

Heck for that matter do you have any idea what your talking about 😛 ?

-Kevin

Is this guy stupid or something? Hm... and don't say you're asking a question.. it's obviously rhetorical.

Yes I am stupid. SP2 must work perfect for everybody.... I don't know what I'm talking about... all setups and hardware combinations work perfect with SP2... lol....

OK #1 you hadn't even posted yet... so it obviously wasn't directed at you. Yes it was a question... so it was rhetorical i didn't call him stupid. Rhetorical or not it was still a question.

Im confused as to this last line of post. Is that supposed to be quotes, or whats it going on?

-Kevin

I hadn't posted yet?... I originated this post.... lol... you are too funny...

If you can't read between the lines and figure out a little sarcasm I'm not gonna bother explaining it for you.

Oops lol hunger gets to yah 😛

Well anyways... i dont recall ever saying that all HW works perfect with SP2 or that it works well for everybody. What i am saying is that there is no difference between what you guys do and what we do. We all have the exact same version of SP2. Therefore there is nothing special about what you guys do... all you do is charge 30 for it.

Also it seems that you lack understanding of much if your download screws up every single time and you dont want to install over the network.

Honestly do you have any clue what you are talking about.

-Kevin

I meant that SP2 download screws up on some setups. Not all. But the CD has never screwed up on me. I don't know why, maybe some super-geek does... Maybe 1 out of 20 computers I did wouldn't take SP2 easily when we were auto-updating or downloading it. Now they never have problems.

Hmm so you just happened to have all 20 computers screw up on the download. I wont pretend that some computers dont have some trouble downloading, however they are the same exact version.

Like i said if all 20 computers are doing that seems like there is something wrong with the original install... therefore an operator problem.

Hey S0Y73NTGR33N, in which city ( I don't need to know the exact location) are you working? So next time that I don't have the time to services one of my customers I can send them to you.

Listen, whether it's 1 out of 20, or Everything, whatever your current answer is? there is one important thing to consider

"Its better to sit there and look stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" You just open yourself for flames with your approach. Beware that the level of expertise in the forums is > than the general public. Most everyone here knows there are various methods of aquiring SP2, including a CD directly from MS.

The fact that Best Buy would sell the disk for $29 is outrageous, with installation included makes it a service rather than an outright gouge, but likely a service that wouldn't interest the user base here. The Geek Squad counter alone is the cue to stay far..far...away.

I dont think they charge for the CD i think they charge for the standing around watching it install. Im not sure that they would be allowed to charge for the disk as you get it from Microsoft for free.

-Kevin

PS...COMP USA was willing to install SP2 for FREE...THATS RIGHT FREE...saw this in one of their ads a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately Best Buy is a rip off...occasionally they do have some good prices.

I work for Best Buy

I wouldn't say that out loud. Not something to be proud of.

No... just don't download it. Or automate it... Get the disk... Walk up to the counter and say.. "Hey give me your SP2 disk." Simple, easy, learn to read.

ROFL. Basically what you're saying is to break your ass installing SP's individually instead of pushing them out. Not a problem when you work for Best Buy, but when you administer 750 machines, that becomes EXTREMELY time-consuming. But hey, you administer 30 machines tops, plus you work for Best Buy. YAY!.😉

BTW the $29 also includes a customization. Basically making idiot's computers less vulnerable and run twice as fast by tweaking windows a little bit. Default settings are extremely shitty. Microsoft = heads up their asses.

What exactly are those customizations that I'm paying 29 bucks for? For some pimple-farming l337-speakin geek to follow Quack Vipers recommendations for disabled services? Please.

Do us all a favor and go crawl back inside of whatever supply closet BB has you working out of. You have no right to call anyone here an idiot.

You are right! Gamephreek actually reads the whole post before trying to give a cataclysmic reply! Good job! hehe..

No.. we do that ourselves.

BTW.. before people keep dissing the customizations we do, you can only mod someone elses computer in a way that is for sure not gonna upset them. Believe me, people get upset over little things like if you move their recycle bin over two inches.

Hey, FYI fellas (I'm sure most know this but just to clarify).

The Windows Update sp2 is a delta install. It won't grab whole files if they aren't needed.

The network install downloaded from Microsoft is the same as the CD version. Both also include sp2 for every variant (Pro, Home, MCE etc.)

S0Y73NTGR33NL337H4X0RPH3114: I think what everyone is getting at is they already know how to bypass any Windows Update related SP2 issues by downloading the full network install. If you are saying that the CD version is something different then you are wrong.

I'm sure you're quite a proficient tech and no one should really be dissing you one way or the other about working at bestbuy. Just keep an etiquette thing in mind: There are some big guns in this crowd and they'll chew up a low-post count guy that comes in with a big head and lacks at least some sense of humility. There are a few people around here that actually write the software you think you're clever at or the KB articles you reference for your tweaks.

You'll jump back into everyone's grace by simply doing something positive like saying, "Hey I was just trying to help everyone out in case they were having SP2 trouble". Something nifty like providing a link to the MS CD or network download wouldn't hurt either. People around here are generally pretty cool, I think you just hit a button.

Edit: Also guys: don't bust his balls too much about not automating 20-30 sp2 installs a day. He's not in an enterprise - the PCs are only coming in the door one at a time.

Yeah, I just got a little pissy cause people were rather rude. Sorry about that. Maybe after I spend a lifetime getting a million posts or so I'll get some respect.. lol....

hehe, it's not the quantity of posts. You just did two things: 1) Ego bruised some people with lesser skills 2) Showed a lack of humility to ones with greater skills. I tried to jump in before you got it from both directions. 😛

ALL computer people have big egos (as they should - the general population are a bunch of numbnuts) you just gotta hide it. Stick around a bit and you're bound to see some guy come in and get all braggy about fixing his dad's AOL or something. You'll find yourself flaming the snot out of him alongside 10 other people.

But I want to!!!! 🙁

But remember the 11th commandment...

Thou Shall not Flame.

OTOH....bah! Why not? 😀

*Readies flame thrower*

Edit: Perhaps that should be Thou Shall not Flame and that thou shall simply ignore the moronic newbies.
