Solutions of connecting DVD player to HDTV

Sorry if I posted this to the wrong forum but am desperate to get this to work.

My DVD player has the RCA jack only - Yellow (video), White and Red (audio)

I recently bought a Samsung T240HD TV. Problem is, the Samsung uses the Yipper, or YPbPr - Green, Blue, Red

Do I have any hopes of connecting these two devices? I can't find any solutions or adapter that will work. What cable would I be able to use? I didn't want to connect the RCA cables - afraid of frying one or the other.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like those are Composite type cables which is:
Yellow-video
Red and White are the Stereo sound cables (Left and right or visa versa)

Most HDTV's have multiple type connectors allowing HDMI, Component (Red, Green & Blue video in addition to audio connectors) S-video (single round connector with muliple pins) and last of all, Composite which I already mentioned.

If your TV doesn't happen to have composite, then does your DVD player support S-video or Component? My old Panasonic DVD player has Composite, S-video and Component.

Are you hooking up any devices to it besides a DVD player? A computer that you could use to play DVDs for example?

Rather than getting some sort of adapter to go from composite to component (or some other type of output), you should probably just get a new DVD player. You can get one with component output for less than $40.

techwanabe - The TV have those composites that you mentioned - HDMI, Component (Red, Green, Blue) ... here's a link to Newegg: Samsung T240HD

As far as the DVD player goes, it's one of those low budet region-free player. All it got are the RCA composite (Yellow, Red, White) - nothing else. Not even an S-Video.

YOyoYOhowsDAjello - Currently the HDTV is connected to a computer ... that has no DVD-ROM drive

You're right - my last hope is probably get a region-free DVD player with component output.

I didn't know region-free was a requirement and don't know all that's associated with that since I've never had to deal with it. Is it possible to get a region free DVD drive for the computer or region free software for playback? I don't really know the legal implications of playing back media from different regions.
(just trying to figure out what all your options are)

I've never heard of a tv having component to not have composite also.

Although after looking at Samsung's website, it looks like its billed more as a computer monitor that happens to have a tv tuner than it is a tv.

Well... after a brief conversation with a Samsung tech and RCA and YPbPr doesn't mix... as the display would be black & white. I guess my hope is to shell out some dough. Thanks to all for your advice!

get a DVD-ROM (that has region-free firmware available) for your computer = 20$

I'm not sure I'm reading your reply right. If your TV "have" those composites, simply plug into them. Or did you mean the TV does NOT have composite inputs. Composite means a single yellow plug for video signal and red/white sound plugs - all RCA style. Not having the S-video isn't a problem if you have Composite, Component and HDMI (that should pretty much cover the full range).

per the link the OP provided, there is no composite input on the PC monitor which happens to have a DTV tuner.
