**Solution Found** I still can't get this computer working. If I can't figure it out soon, I feel I'll be forced to start breaking $@#$!

For those that don't know, I am attempting to get my Asus P3V4X and Iwill/FCPGA combo to post. I will give a run down of everything I have done in hopes that someone can figure out what I messed up on.

1. Put cpu in Iwill Slotket II. I am pretty sure the pins will only allow it to go one way so that probably isn't it.

2. Put heatsink on slocket and cpu. I am almost positive I did this right and I don't think it could cause my computer not to post.

3. Put my memory in banks 3 and 4.

4. Installed my vid card. I think this is in right because even though nothing really happens when I turn on the computer, the monitor still turns a grayish color and a green light near the agp slot lights up.

5. Hooked up all the Leds. I had trouble with this at first and I couldn't get my computer started. However I checked with manual and it matched with the advice that someone gave me earlier. The only weird thing with those is, when I put the pwr.led in right, the power light on the front of my case turns orange. However, when it is in backwards, it lights up the normal green. I am thinking that it lights up orange because it is saying that the computer isn't working right.

5. Hooked up cpu fan connector to mobo and atx power connector. This stuff is all working otherwise all the fans would not blow.

6. Put the slocket in the processor slot. I am almost sure that something here is messing up. When I turn on the computer I don't get any text messages about failing to find a boot device and there are also no beeps from the speaker saying whether or not everyhing is hooked up right. Someone said that it may be the casing on the slocket making it so it won't go down all the way so I took the casing off and put the card in without it. When I did that the card was really loose inside the slot. It wiggled back and forth. I tried booting with it standing up straight once and then let it fall to its side the other time, but still nothing. The reason the card rocks back and forth I think is because it is too narrow for the slot and there is also an alpha heatsink on it. Everytime I put the slocket in, I pushed the card in until it could go no further. I even tried rocking it back and forth to get a little deeper.

What do you guys think. I am out of ideas. I figure it has to be something with either the cpu, slocket, or mobo, but I have no idea.

Try putting your momery in banks 1 and 2 first. Also, have you checked to make sure that this memory works in other computers? Perhaps you should try to put only one stick of RAM in the system to try and get it to post, then, you will know if it is a memory problem or not.

Also, another thing you may want to check out is wether or not there are any shorts on the board. What I usually do to check this out, is take the motherboard out of the case completely, and place it on anti-static bubble-wrap, and run it from there.

Be sure to not try these things both at the same time though, because if it all of the sudden starts to work, you wont know what it is that fixed it. ;)

Memory banks 1 and 2 are blocked by my heat sink. If there was a memory problem it says my bios would beep so I think it would still do something if my memory was messed up. However, I can't even get far enough to get to the bios so things beep so I think it has to be something with the processor.

Do you have a smaller heatsink to try with? As far as I know, most motherboards require that you fill slots one and two with RAM before 3 and four.

What you should do is try running the computer without the heatsink and with RAM in banks 1 and 2. If it works then, leave the RAM there, but make sure to get a heatsink on it. That way, you can hopefully find out if your problem is the RAM or not. I would run the computer at this stage with the case open, just for the extra cooling your heatsink might have provided. Good luck!

put the origional heatsink back on & try one ram stick in the first slot. Remove all other cards except for the video card. Unplug all disk drives also -- all you want to do is get it to post for now.

Just wanted to say I got it going. I have a softbios and I didn't know that if it messes up on the first try you have to start it up the next time without the processor and then start it up again with it inserted correctly. Thanks to arstechnica for that little point. One last thing, my power light is orange while it is in the bios. Is that normal?

Check the jumper settings on the slocket are correct. Set them to default and use the board bios to set the speed. If you are using the board, then use the jumpers on the slocket to the speed. If all else fails, try a different slocket.
