Soltek SL-K890Pro-939 with an x800xl question

I am building a new system soon and have already ordered my videocard, an x800xl. The motherboard I plan to go with is Soltek's k890pro board, which only requires a 20 pin psu connector. Now I'm wondering if this is a problem as I've read the x800xl's require more juice and that juice is usually provided by the extra four pins, or is this not even a factor? (no I do not want a dfi or msi nf4 board or an nf4ultra board.) Would appreciate any info. Thanks.

p.s. The x800xl doesn't have the molex connector on it

the PCI-E connector can supply enough voltage, as long as your PSU is good --- the PCI-E connector was designed for higher voltage outputs
also just remember that you need the 4 pin connector for the motherboard (p4 connector) otherwise the board may not boot

is that extra 4 pin connector one that supplies more power to the pci-ex slots? or what does it do

no it supplies more power to the mobo/cpu (most if not all new boards have this connector)
when you get a psu and the board together it is obvious that they connect together, just make sure you connect them, otherwise no boot

Don't get the connectors confused. You are right to be concerned about Soltek using only a 20pin Main ATX connector on this board, when your X800XL does not have a power connector of it's own. The additional 4 pins on the 24 pin style ATX main power connector are to supply more juice to the PCI-E slot.

The additional ATX 12V 4 pin connector (the other one, the one that has been with us since AGP and located seperately from the MAIN connector) is to supply additional CPU power only.

The Power Color X800XL is one of the few Radeons using this GPU that has an additional 6 pin PCI-E power connector on it. You might want to buy that one and RMA the one you just bought, since you will then be assured the card will be getting enough power. Fortunately the Power Color card is one of the less expensive ones, and interestingly enough is also one of the more feature rich (VIVO).

Edited to say that you could also go with the ASUS A8V-E Deluxe, but it is expensive and I think still has some serious bugs to be worked out on it. It comes with a pretty useless WiFi-G adapter built right into it, which jacks the price up about $30 needlessly, and from what I understand still has serious issues with any nVidia GeForce6600GT and I think one review site had trouble with USB 2.0 mode on the ports. Yikes, perhaps I should NOT told you about this board, but it is the only K8T890 board with a 24 pin Main ATX power connector, I believe. The Albatron board will also have a 24 pin connector on it, but I have yet to see it for sale.

well I only ordered it yesterday from monarch, the order has not gone completely through yet and it has definitely not been shipped, will I be able to cancel the order still? I need to think about this more :(

Call them first thing in the morning--like right when they open, and see if you can have them switch the X800XL you ordered for the Power Color X800XL. You might pay a couple more dollars, but then again, you won't have to worry either.

The other thing is that the nForce4 platform is maturing and we are starting to see some really good and stable boards. I would stay away from any of the SLI boards, as you obviously don't need one and they are pricey and quirky to boot. The EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra is about the same price as the Soltek ($10 difference?) and has no bad habits, if you have not ordered the mobo yet. I am using one right now. Another nForce4 Ultra board worthy of consideration is the ASUS A8N-E board, for a little more. I would replace the chipset fan on the ASUS right away, though. It is on the loud side. There are some good after-market alternatives.
