I put together my new setup and upon boot the debug led shows a C1 error which is first block memory detect. Everything powers up like it is suppose to but the monitor doesn't turn on and system beeps until I turn it off. There are no troubleshooting tips in the user manual but I switched memory around and even tried some PC2700. The memory I'm using with the board is two sticks of Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200. I'm hardly an expert so just wanted to know any ideas before I RMA the board.

Could you add the full system spec list, including the brand and model of the power supply, plus the exact version of your CPU (for instance 90nm versus 130nm), unless these first guesses happen to hit paydirt:

 • Ensure that you did mount the motherboard on standoffs.
 • Check that your ATX12V cable is plugged in.
 • Ensure that the video card really got firmly seated, there are two layers of contacts and sometimes AGP slots are stiff when new.
The new 90nm versions of the A64 require BIOS updates on at least some of the popular Socket939 motherboards before they will run, or at least before they'll run properly, so that's another possibility too.

Thanks for the tips, I tried again still no go though. I'm sending it back today another thing I've never experienced was I used thermal paste and the heatsink wouldn't separate from the cpu. It ripped the cpu right out of the socket, that artic silver is some thick stuff. Luckily no damage.

Yes I have the 90nm amd 64 3000 939 socket
thermaltake silent purpower 480w
radeon 9800 pro
maxtor 7200

Thanks

Wow! If you got the adhesive effect using a silver based T.I.M. you probably used way too much! Ceramique' and the stock Shin-etsu pad have had their share of this problem, but I have never heard of the silver doing it before this.

No, it's fine. I had this problem too. Run the sticks in alternate slots like 1&3 (If you have to, boot up on one stick,) boot up, download the newest BIOS ver W1.2 and flash.

Power down, then put the memory back in side by side.

Your problem will be solved.

What heat sink are you using, btw?
