Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on my problem; have just put together a new system as follows:

Soltek K8AN2E-GR Motherboard
AMD Athlon64 2800 CPU w/stock heatsink/fan
Samsung 512MB PC3200 DDR400 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 120GB Serial ATA HDD
Sony CRX300A CD-RW/DVD Drive
ATI Radeon 9600SE 4x/8x AGP Video Card
Mitsumi FA404A Floppy
Antec SLK1650B Case w/350W PS

The problem I'm having is everything powers up without a problem but when I attempt to install Windows XP Home Edition (OEM) I receive varying error messages: a) at times the some files won't copy; but also b) if everything has worked during setup "stop..." message, etc

Any thoughts...CD problem, memory,...????? Help!

at what point does the error come up? could it simply be a problem of loading the SATA drivers for the OS install?

if you are using the NVIDIA SATA controller, you probably will not need to use a driver CD, if that is not the case, switch to the NVIDIA controller, not the PROMISE controller.

report back soldier !!!!! ;)

SolarWind,

Where does one find memtest? Not sure that will necessarily work as without being able to install XP I don't have a system that is functioning. None of the voltages have been changed; default values.

Craig,

Errors happen at different points...with multitude of times I've tried the install have had them occur during initial copying of files while at other times the installation has almost completed (~5 minutes to completion according to XP) so makes it harder to isolate issue I'd guess.
