SOLTEK 85ERV P4X400, thoughts?

Anyone got one of those? I'm wondering especially how the overclocking experience went..

They got a 2.2Ghz chip to 120Mhz with a factory cooler at 1.7Volts

Yea, i've read reviews. it looks like a really solid mainboard. I wish it had Serial ATA. ;

The thing with Serial ATA is that there are no Drives out yet to use them and the early ones that are in testing are not much faster than a good ata133 or 100 drive.

But I did read the second review and maybe I am wrong, they say they were able to overclock it quite well. But I don't know if it has a Pci/Agp lock? No one has said yes or no, but they still get good overclocks and the second review has a Mad Onion score over 11000 at factory speeds.

But I upgrade every 2 yrs only, so I'll miss out on anything Serial ATA for at least 2 yrs ;(

my dilemna is:

serial ATA
or
cheaper price (-60.00)

that's about it.


and I don't think it has a pci lock...

I am sure there will be plenty of add on cards that will add serial to the board. You can get a Raid PCI card for $20-30. And again serial ATA is still in the woks so IDE drives will be around for a long time.

Canada prices right,

But when you get it going tell everybody what its Pro's and Cons's are. And also I think the board you got will NOT have the Lan as it does not have a L on the end of the Board listing. But I am sure you have a Lan card or Modem.

overall it costs almost the same as buying it from the US, without the potential, dreadful, customs fees from the border

they didn't have the L version, but I have an ethernet card so.

and yes I will post all I can about it when i get it Monday (hopefully)

Noooooooooooo, I'm so sorry, I wish I had read this two weeks ago!

The SL-85ERV is very problematic, I have one, and when it comes to PC2700+, well IMHO it's a lemon.

How are you getting along?
