My dad has a Soloflex machine with what I believe to be all the attachments and a fantastic Rock-It leg machine. Does anyone have any experience with such a setup?

I'd really like to get him (and myself for that matter) back into shape, and since it's at his house, I think I could much more easily motivate him to use it. Any websites besides the Soloflex one that offer workout plans/routines? Could I use a routine based on free weights and use the equivalent exercise on the machine and get good results?

I'm not necessarily looking to get huge, just to gain lean muscle and drop about 10-15 lbs of fat.

For what you are looking to do, it will work fine. I've had one since moving away from home@18, 23yrs ago. You can follow the routines the guys here list all the time for lifting, except for curls, it just won't let you do one properly despite it being in the "station list" I use mine for incline, roman chair, and inverted sit-ups, dips, and pull-ups, and as a bench to use with dumbbells. I stopped doing the band exercises way back though, the uneven resistance is for crap IMO. But since you are just looking to lean down and get some resistance training in, it should work fine for that.

Yes, just look in on some of the training journals here for ideas on routines/which muscle groups they work, in a given session. While it won't provide the even resistance of free weights, you can do push&pull exercises and even work till muscle failure. IOW, you can build some strength and muscle, and burn calories by following a free weight program. as aside from the curls, it does everything else well enough, and safely enough for a good workout.

Anything is better than nothing. It seems like you have realistic expectations for it, so go for it. Maybe you'll like it and decide to join a gym together for even greater results.

Yeah, I figured as much. The funniest part is that he belongs to a 24 hour fitness right up the road, but he's really unmotivated. Ever since my mom died he's really been quite the hermit, and I figure if I can get him into good shape again, he might actually go get laid and get his ass out of the house.

Thanks guys.
