look for something that doesn't dry out the rice after sittin for awhile. does such a product exist?

Fuzzy logic ones from Zojirushi and National.

DO NOT get a glass lid rice cooker! I made the mistake of buying one (Panasonic as well) and the rice just didn't turn out as well as the ones with the latch/lock lids.

it's a feature

i dunno why you need such fancy microcomputer based features. our 9 year old cooker works just fine.

ugh. i hated cleaning the glass lid one. i got a tiger brand rice cooker - i had a zojirushi one but it was of the glass lid variety and i tired of that rather quickly.

zojirushi rocks though. best rice cooker ever.

Cheap rice cookers detect the temperature rise which occurs when all the water has boiled off.
Ie., the temperature starts to rise over 100 Celsius. They have 2 modes, Hot - for cooking, and warm, for keeping the rice warm once the water has boiled off.

Fuzzy logic cooker have a thermometer and a cpu which adjusts the temperature.

Hint - Spend the extra $$ on one with a decent non-stick surface. We used to have a cheapie and it took FOREVER to clean it up after it cooked. Now, with the non-stick, it just needs a swipe and it's done. Definitely worth it.

a basic national for most people is enough after all it's a rice cooker, but for the extra nice, fancy, and expensive go for the zojirushi...

my family uses a national.

What about Sanyo with the glass top? What's so bad about the glass tops?!?

Glass tops don't hold in the heat and the rice just doesn't taste like it should.
