If possible (not everyone can do this) I would pay for your laptop with CASH so you don't have to worry about your cc being on the receipt and you can mail the original sales receipt to the buyer.

Well, to help answer my own question, the warranty from Compaq, clearly says the warrranty if valid only for the original purchaser. So, if you buy one on ebay or from someone else, and don't get the receipt, you won't have a warranty. I guess you can still get an extended warranty without a receipt, but it requires a phone call. However, two extra years of warranty from Compaq is a deal at $99.00

Damn straight that's a good deal. The crooks at Best Buy wanted $249.00 to provide me with an additional 2-year replacment plan. 🙁

Great deal winston9t4 !

For some odd reason I got up extra earlier the day this posted and called staples just a few mins after 7am to reserve one of these in Sacramento, CA. Laptop is brand new and runs great (XP sp1 fixed audio issue on mine) I was told by the CSR there were two more of these in Lodi.

SithSolo1 .. BTO = Build To Order .. call your local staples and ask to see if they have the SKU # in stock winston9t4 orig posted. If so, they should hold it for the day for you. GL

Did you talk to the manager about his employees lying to you?

Wasn't worth the effort or my time.. I have learned to expect these things from staples...

Here's a question: I oroginally bought the ZE4101 last Sunday for $799-10% (demo), before they dropped the price. Today I went back and got a price reduction to $599-10%. The question: Can I still use the rebate receipts I got with my original purchase, or will the adjustment today create problems using those? The receipt I got today was a special receipt that indicates an adjustment from a previous purchase (has "original purchase date" and stuff like that listed). No new rebate forms printed out with today's receipt, and the guy at the register said that he couldn't produce any rebate receipts for this receipt...

Anyone know?

Have to say, I am not too unhappy with my net purchase price of $599 - 60 (10%) - 30 (coupon) -250 (rebates) = 260. Especially when you consider that the one I bought was open box, but never removed from the box (the seal was still on the plastic around the laptop!)

When I power mine on and go into the system tab, how come it says 649mhz...even when plugged in prior to booting.

BostonYuk, I noticed that too. That is a feature to save battery drain if the full processing power is not needed. You will see 649MHz, 973?MHz and 1.33GHz. To run at full speed all the time go to control panel>power options>and change power schemes to "always on"
We need to find some DDR memory deals, as 128MB is not enough for XP.

ThX 🙂
Any idea what the deal is w/ the MiniPCI Slot?
I'd love to get a WiFi card....and of course, some more ram.

Did anyone happen to get the USB floppy drive from HP? I just got it today, but can't get it to work. It recognizes the drive, but when I try to access a disk, it keeps saying "Please insert disk" when there's already one in there...

winston9t4, I received my USB floppy drive yesterday, It seems to work fine reading a floppy....I did notice after removing the floppy disk I would get a occasional pop-up message saying there was no disk in drive A or some wording to that effect.

Well, I downloaded a bunch of updates for Win XP, and it seems to be working OK now. Not sure what made the difference, but I'll take it...

Send in your original rebate receipts with the rebate forms. I'm sure you won't have any problems getting the rebate money. 🙂

Does anyone have the Compaq 910US with a sticker that says:

Exceptional Performance, Outstanding Value - Multimedia Powerhouse with Digital Video Port (1394)

Leading-edge graphics with ATI Mobility Radeon and large 15" display

Model 910US

Please email me if you do because it doesn't have a 15.1" display and I'm planning on contacting my lawyer.
