[SOLDOUT] HP ze4101 laptop $299.50 at Staples YMMV

Scored the last one in Hackensack NJ.

599 - 30/150 + 34.xx tax. Out the door for 603.xx, with 250 in MIRs on their way.......

The $50 off coupon is not a printable, but the guy who checked me out took it. To find it you may need to do some "Deal hunting". I did bring a back-up $30 off $150 which IS a printable. Forgot where I got it though, but you should be able to get it from Google.

Thanks for the tip! What a bargain! I got the display model (with box and UPC) at my local Staples (NJ), they allowed the $50 coupon code, and both rebates printed out at the register. The price came up $599.50 right off the bat.

Only problem is, my unit is missing 3 keys on the keyboard. Apparantly someone popped them off and stole them while it was on display. Any idea if the keys are universal-fit, or can be found cheaply anywhere besides from HP's parts dept?

I went to Staples and asked why they do not keep laptops in stock the way they used to before. The manager was really friendly
and explained why most Staples are going BTO. He said that when Staples BM take laptops/computers from manufacturers, it
occupies a lot of shelf space and if they do not sell, the wasted shelf space equlas loss of revenue. Also, he said that laptops/computers do NOT
sell like hotcakes except when ther is an unbelievable deal going on (which does not happen most of the time). ALSO, he said if computers / laptops do not sell,
they return them to their manufacturers and they get hit with 15% penalty. To solve this issue, corporate decided to go BTO / order type deal. This saves
them inventory space and they dont get hit with manuf. penalties. He also said, they do stock comps/laptops from timeto time, like xmas or special promos when they expect higher volume computer sales.

okay, I'm gonna ask: what the heck is "BTO"?

also, anyone who lives in the middle part of Florida, dont bother. I must have called ten stores and they're all gone.

no more ze4101s 🙁

built/build to order, meaning that you put in the specs and brand and model at a kiosk, and the laptop's shipped to you

my local staples said they dont evan have a single laptop in store anymore. she said they all all done by ordering them :disgust:

Phoned several of the local area Boston stores.

No stock.

Several of the people I talked to instantly knew which laptop I was looking for, which leads me to believe they ave already had more than a few phone calls for it.

Man, am I a happy camper. On Sunday, I wandered into my local Staples and found a clearance tag of $719.99 for the ZE4101. No 4101 on the shelf, but there was one, brand new, in back. I bought it thinking I'd score bigtime at $720-30-250 = $440. When I bought it, the 4101 scanned at $799, and the cashier had to manually override to give it to me for $719.

Then, THEN, I see this thread this morning. At first, I think that someone just got lucky and got a 4101 at some store that had priced it even lower than the $719 I paid, but that, like when I bought mine, the price in the system was still $799. But soon I see reports that $599.50 is the price in the computer...

So back to the store I go to get my purchase of two days ago adjusted. $320. No fuss. No muss. No trying to beat the FW/AT crowds. My great deal just went platinum!

I only wish this laptop had a DVD+CDRW drive. I want to transfer the drive from my ZE1210 and give that computer to my parents. ANyone know how easy it is to replace the optical drive in these?

Oh, and I got my laptop in the Boston area. But as I said, that was Sunday, before the price dropped even further and the feeding frenzy began.

Eviltwin - I just came from Staples in San Fran, and they spoke with the Seattle Manager. He had two of them this morning. You must have gotten one of them. Good Find! They would have shipped me the other one if I had called earlier. maybe next time...

Wow! What a truly HOT DEAL!!! This has got to be a contender for "Deal of the Year"!

I lucked out and found the last one in the Seattle area. I'm feeling extremely lucky today!

The manager approved the $50 off $200 code, and the $250 in rebates printed up at the register. The clerk couldn't believe her eyes!

Thanks Winston 9t4!!<FONT face=Verdana size=1>

Got one at Pittsburgh Cranberry store....not the 4101 but the compaq 910...
770-10% cause of display model... 750 out the door... no printable coupons, manager would not give me any more of a break...-250 in rebates.....$500... and this one's got a 30 gigger and a cd-rw/dvd drive... Sweet deal, thanks Winston9t4 !!!

almost 2hrs. roundtrip for something that shows that it is in stock according to the computer. Problem is that a younger guy checked the stock for me and goes "uh we don't have any so don't bother unless you want to BTO". Too long a drive for a "maybe" in stock. But my local store that I checked at lunch shows it as being in stock in Oside as did the 1 800 number. Someone in Oceanside should check physically. I take it no luck in woodland hills.
