Sold stuff on ebay but the buyer is not satisfied?! Now what?

Recently I sold a laptop on ebay, the buyer complaint and ask for a refund but I cannot do because I do not see a reason why I should. So here is the thing:

I got a non working laptop locally, the laptop looks completed but it just did not work, so I thought it was some power issue but I had no time to figure out. So I just listed it on ebay.

Since the laptop was not working, I stated it in my auction saying that it did not work at all and good for parts, I even had pictures in my auction and that's the actual item. I had it listed $99 for starting bid and $175 for Buy It Now. So there was a buyer, without asking any question regrading the laptop or anything, Buy It Now the laptop that I listed like the way it should. He paid with paypal.

He recieved the laptop and complaint to me that the laptop did not work and not good for parts, saying that I am lying to him and being a very dishonest seller. He claimed that the AC adapter did not match the original specs (I got the laptop with this and the connector matched), he claimed that the lcd is damaged and there was a spill on the laptop. So I got the laptop in non-working condition already, how do I know its history? Honestly speaking, I did not even know how a laptop look and act like with a spill, and since it does not work, how can I verify the lcd's workability? He asked me for refund. I am pretty sure that I stated it did not work and I am selling as-is and for buyer please bid accordingly. I got really angry when he said I am a very dishonest seller which I sold so many stuff on ebay and I have more better feedback than he has, and now he is saying I am being dishonest? I decribed the best I could for the laptop being it was in non-working condition.

I think the deal is fair but now he wants refund, what should I do? I personally and my friend said it sucks and there is no way I should refund him. But I do not know what will Paypal think. Fellow AT people, let me know what should I do 🙁.

Here is the link of the auction:

Did you state in your auction that the sale was 'as is' and there were no refunds?
did you have pics?
If the answer is yes, to either, tell him to pound salt.
If you stated the laptop was non working and good for parts... what parts can be used from them?
would you mind posting the auction link?
🙂

I have pictures of it and stated it was not working and selling as-is
The laptop has a good harddrive and some other plastic that look good, the laptop harddrive was tested working, I cannot verify the lcd and the laptop itself because it did not work and I have no way to test them.
I had the auction link, but it was a while ago like 20 days or so, let me check with ebay.

Tell him that you are sorry, but it was sold as it, and that you in no way misrepresented the item. Make sure all the money is out of your paypal account first, in case he tries to do a charge back.

He bought it as is and that is that.
If you feel generous, you can refund his money, minus shipping both way, and perhaps a 10% restocking fee, plus all your ebay costs.

🙂

so some guy bought a laptop that cost 175$, was stated non-functional as is, and expected it to work like a new Dell?

go over to his house and threaten his life

And I really did not expected to be sold at $150 + shipping while it's not working, but it bidded on it and paid it. My starting bid was considerably lower because the laptop was not working. I stated it pretty clear. I get pissed because he said I am being dishonest while I think I stated pretty clear.. all my friends that have common sense tell me I should not refund him. He has been sending emails saying all that stuff and want refund. 🙁

Wow, you get some real dumb@sses bidding on your sh1t...

I wouldn't deal with him. I'd be like look, it said as is, you bought it as is, if you're not happy resell as is.

You do not need to refund his money. It clearly stated in your auction that it was not working and is being sold as is. He obviously did not read your description very thoroughly. 😀

Get the money out of your account, then the corresponding checking account ASAP. Either that, or get it in a check.

Yea, happened to me before too. Listed some camera where the battery cover and lens bezel was missing. I specifically stated this in my auction and had a picture of it. Sure enough, the moron who bought it complains I mislead the item because it did not come with a battery cover and lens bezel. And no, I didn't refund the moron.

You don't owe the guy squat. You stated it was non-working, as-is. Too bad.

It's buyer beware, as always.
