Could anyone give me a recommendation for a SCSI card for this? 2 of these running in Raid 0, with the 60gig Sam's deal as just mass storage, could really make a god box.

Picked up the Lexar 80 mb CF card. Great price but steep shipping.

Total with shipping is $68.58. At least it is Airbourne 2 day air service.

So which model is it? Vantage or Enterprise? Currently I have Enterprise in my system, never go wrong with this model.

* EDIT *
Seems like you can get $10 off $50 (not sure if already post here) back if you use your Mastercard to do the purchase. Not sure how this thing works, but going to give it try.

Got it from FatWallet. Here is the info.

* EDIT AGAIN *
Looks like the $10 off $50 deal expires. I got invalid offer expiration date error. I end up have to clear my cookie in order to make purchase.

I guess it is Vantage because there is no mention about Ultra 160 on the link.
Any good deal for 80 to 68 adapter yet?

Already order one. We will see which model when I receive it. The cheapest adapter I can find (without shipping) is PC-Pitstop. I found him from ebay listing.

Wooster> I'm 99% sure it's the Vantage, as the 6.6ms Read seek time is the same as the TigerDirect page states. The Enterprise is somewhat faster, around 5.x ms.

I understand it matches the number of access time with Vantage, but Borealiss called the CSR and confirm it's Enterprise with model number. That's why make me confuse, which side to belive.

I found another warm deal for SCSI HD at PC-Pitstop. This time it's IBM Ultrastar SCSI with SCA 80pins. Compare with WD, not sure it's worth extra $30 without shipping. Any suggestions?

Designgirl,

I think the $10 off $50 deal expires already. Need to clear your cookie in order to make a purchase. Sorry I didn't clear this up little bit earlier. :p

You got awsome setup there. Running some kind of super server? 1.5GB of memory and 200GB of SCSI HD. Wow!! :D

I just picked up an Ultra320 (320Megs/sec)raid controller from ATTO, so this deal is kinda out of my league. Planning on getting 2 IBM 15,000RPM Ultra320 drives next week. These babies dont even have a seek time! Actually its very low, 2.9ms, me thinks. Poor IDE, even the ATA-100 cant get to that speed. Its real max is 48-56megs/sec.

Gosh, AL, if you have that kind of system, you almost need these 10,000 to store your mp3's... I'm sure they'd make a good boot partition as well...

Someone asked if the SCSI will work with the Gateway 6400 well I did a little digging, maybe this will help.
And the answer tot he million dollar question is

Will this drive work with that HOT Gateway 6400 server? FYI that server uses the Asus CUR-DLS motherboard. Here's a link to it:
http://www.asus.com.tw/products/Motherboard/Pentiumpro/Cur-dls/index.html
It sounds like an excellent deal for those hundreds of people who just bit on that excellent server deal.

I just ordered one of the Gateway 6400's, and went looking for sca to 68-pin adapters: found them for $10 below.

http://www.symmic.com/computer/adaptor/S80D68LS.htm

I've ordered some mac stuff from here before and had a good experience.

It will work the Gateway 6400, but you need that converter I mentioned. I dug one up:
http://www.granitedigital.com/catalog/pg01_adapters.htm

Look for item 5051 ("5051 80 Pin SCA to 68MicroD LVD *no term. $39.00"). Note this is one of best, most expensive brands of converters, so you may be able to get it quite cheaper. I wouldn't though; we get what we pay for (usually :)).

# 5 Posted 6:34 PM PDT 6/9 by judoMan Unregistered - Email: N/A - IP:

Ah, dang. Two of us were working on a post about the converter separately.

Anyway, I also found out information about this drive. It's quite discontinued, which is why it's so cheap.

Here's a link to the manufacturer's site:
http://www.westerndigital.com/products/non-current/drives/wd183f.html

Here's a review from the salient guys at Storage Review:

skywhr> They pulled the drive off of their site. Guess it sold out.
The drive was definitely not listed as a refurb, and doing a search for the model ID turned up both the sale drive and the same drive as a refurb model, which incidentally cost more than the one not marked as refurb.
