does the buyer have proof there ever were wall mounts?

also, what are they going to do even if they do?

If it were me I would contact the agent and have them talk to the buyers. Personally I would just leave them but I'd also want to see what the sellers feelings are. Probably should have been discussed before hand.

If we ever sell our house I'll probably see if the buyers want our pool table as it would be a pain in the ass to have moved. Mounts that I've installed (speaker or TV) I'll check with the buyers and see what they want to do.

Technically they should stay, at least in Oklahoma. I specifically exclude anything to do with home theater, such as my rear speakers that are mounted to the ceiling and outdoor speakers. Technically they could probably try to make a claim for the entire TV, since it is likely bolted to the mount.

At the end of the day, they can just mostly be pissed off, no one is going to walk over a $40 TV mount and as soon as they close they can not come after you for it (at least in Oklahoma).

Also every house I've ever moved into, or my parents have moved into, have had holes all over the walls. Unless they put in the contract that you will repair nail/screw holes, it is their problem.

I'm wondering if I were the buyer would I even use the mounts installed or would I rip it out and install my own seeing a lot of them are DIY.

What does the purchase agreement say. Typically They specify anything bolted screwed or otherwise attached has to stay unless specifically listed otherwise.

Are most of you just guessing? If it's attached to the house, you leave it.

I asked my wife this question and this was her reply. She's a licensed Realtor and she has been doing this for a living for decades.

It really can work either way. However most of the time I've seen the owner take the mount for the TV and the TV.

Hmmm it's a tough one, it's a somewhat niche item, in that the next owner may not even want to mount the TV there, but it is something that is permanently attached.

To play it safe, I would remove it before you put the house on the market, if you want to keep it.

I wouldn't do that, the house would probably show better with the TV mounted. Just have your Realtor state it in the counter offer that the TV mount is not part of the deal.

Picked mine up for $25 at monoprice. It would more than likely cost me more in both time and materials to remove, patch, and paint, than it would to buy all new ones.

If it were me, I would ask the realtor and/or buyer. I could see someone having a problem with some patching done in (I'm guessing) a fairly visible area after you remove them. Remember this is America; you could probably get sued and lose for something like misrepresentation / modifying the house after the sale or something.

Anyways, the fuck realtor spellchecking to capitals. Fuck realtors now.

I asked my wife this question and this was her reply. She's a licensed Realtor and she has been doing this for a living for decades.

This is a decades old answer to a question posed back then. Light fixtures, closet shelving, etc, yes, it all stays. TV mounts are purchased to mount your TV to a wall. They go with your TV. This is a relatively new issue as TV mounts aren't all that old and don't fit the "if its mounted to the wall it stays" train of thought.

We specifically asked our realtor when we moved and this is her explanation. She also said there is a very good chance not everyone will want a TV mounted where we had it or will want a smaller/larger one that the mount might not work for, so keep it with the TV and take it with you when you move. I also had some extremely cheap logitech cameras mounted over the back porch and front drive area which she said would not stay with the house and that I can take them.

It probably varies based on what part of the country you live in as well as some norms in certain areas are not in others.

That's a good point too I never even considered the repatching. You would need to repaint that whole wall too or it will show.

I love how so many people actually tried to answer the question.
