Sold laptop off ebay, international guy, need some advice!

Hey there guys, well as you all know about my last thread about people jacking crap outta my paypal so I am just very cautious about things I sell on the "internet"

Anyways my auction for my laptop on ebay just ended, I stated no international shipping in the listing, but it was in a small print in the bottom so I guess that's my fault.

Anyways the highest bidder is from France. His feedback is here
http://myworld.ebay.com/666to not bad at all.

He's willing to pay for all the shipping charges to his place in France, is there anything I need to worry about if I go through with this? Payment will be through paypal also. ( my new account )

And also, what's a decent shipping method to get the laptop to him?

thanks

Last time I accepted international payments I think Paypal hit me (not the buyer) with currency conversion fees. It's on their site somewhere. This is in addition to the normal ebay fees.

Do not accept Paypal from an interantional buyer!

Get a international money order and cash it for cash, then ship!

QFT

I do not, under any circumstances, accept PP from outside the US.

whats the worst that can happen? He said he is verified.

Can't I just receive the money, withdraw all of it and then ship?

Again QFT..... Can't you (when you create an auction) block International buyers from even bidding on your auction and only accept US bidders?!?

*Sigh*

Nope.

He may be verified but unless his address is confirmed AND indicates "seller protection" then he can say he never got it and refute the charges.

As far as withdrawing your money, that won't work. If they determine you are liable, they'll go get their money whether through collections or levying you future earnings or whatever......maybe even draw it from the account you have tied to them.

Don't do it. I did the same thing with an Aussie who won my notebook auction. I reminded him that I stated US only and offered to still ship it to him if he wanted to mail me a money order or cashiers check. He declined, so we did a mutual non-paying bidder report and I got my fees back and relisted and it sold the next day.

thanks a lot, I'll do exactly that. I filed this seems good?

Reason given for Unpaid Item: We have both agreed not to complete the transaction.
Buyer actions reported by seller: We were unable to resolve a disagreement over terms.

that's correct right?

and my reason was:
Buyer bid on my auction even though it was clearly stated in the description itself that I will not
deal with international buyers and will not ship internationally.
Paypal's security and protection
will not protect me from internationally addresses and buyers.

'I know I couldn't say no French in the ad but...uh...no French'

yeah, seems good to me.

You can ship the laptop in a USPS flat rate box as long as it's below 20 lbs. It should be around $37.00 to ship. But you have to deal with it getting there. And intact. I believe the most insurance ontop of the $37.00 is for $1,200 something and that's 14.00. It covers rifiling and damage.

You also need a return receipt. So it can get expensive. I don't know why he wants to buy a laptop from the states when he can probably get it cheaper in his own country. Is he aware he will need to get a plug converter too?????

I didn't need to cancel crap, thanks eBay for saving my ass. got this email in the morning and it put a smile on my face

"We have cancelled the listing(s) to maintain the integrity of the eBay site, your account, and the bidder?s account that was accessed. We are working to restore the bidding account to its rightful owner, and we are working with the account owner to prevent any additional unauthorized activity. Since the account owner did not initiate these bids, all fees resulting from the listings in question will be credited to your account within 7 days. If you do not see the credits posted to your account after 7 days, please feel free to contact us through ?Contact Us? in our Help section.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to automatically relist these items for you. Instead, to relist these items you will need to start from the beginning of the listing process, either through the "Sell Your Item" process or through your third party listing service. We know that this is an inconvenience and we apologize for the negative impact it may cause you. We are working on tools to allow you to relist your items without starting from the beginning, but they are not available at this time."
