Solaris 8 formatting problems

I'm trying to format a HD... but Solaris won't let me... it keeps saying "format failed"

it gives some asc # or some crap... i'm at my witts end trying to sort it out... I can't even access the drive to see what's on it.

anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

i went to forums.unix.com and the f-in' geek admin "neo" gave me the stupid s- "RTFM" deal... which i've tried... the bloody manuals don't talk about format troubleshooting.... besides... have you tried looking for something you need on docs.sun.com... it's a joke... you type in any keywords and you get the exact same results over and over.

Well, you don't really format with solaris, you make partitions. You need to make a /boot, /etc, /home, and a / partition. Oh, don't forget a <SWAP> partition = to ram. This should get you started.

yeah that's all fine and nice... but I am unable to do ANYTHING to the HD... I cannot run the "format" command on it...

i need help with that...
