It's amazing how a company is so greedy they can't grasp the concept of community involvement. Thankfully there is always FreeBSD staying on top of ZFS!
 
At this point are companies still doing new Solaris deployments, or is Oracle's meddling leading to a phase-out of Solaris?

I'm sure there's some hardcore Solaris people still alive, although they should be nearing retirement now. =)

And I'm also sure there's some Oracle/Solaris/Sparc-specific stuff in existence that requires it. But other than that and the grey-beards I can't imagine why someone wouldn't look at Linux first these days.
