Shot from the sun yesterday and some things have been affected but we have yet to get the brunt of the force. Will hit later tonight.

I first read it as a X-16 flare and got worried... then I saw the decimal point: X-1.6 Meh.

To put this into perspective.

In modern times, the largest solar flare measured with instruments occurred on November 4, 2003. This event saturated the GOES detectors, and because of this its classification is only approximate. Initially, extrapolating the GOES curve, it was estimated to be X28. Later analysis of the ionospheric effects suggested increasing this estimate to X45 This event produced the first clear evidence of a new spectral component above 100 GHz.

Dammit too bad it's rainy/cloudy/cold out.

Kind of glad I'm not the night shift guy at work. This is probably gonna wreck havoc with the satellite links. :p

Should I be unplugging shit?

I thought about it then decided it'd be a pain in the ass so I'll just turn the power bar off. Meh.

Pretty cool the big one a few years ago barely missed us and didn't wipe the planet out.

It ain't over yet

aurora watchers in the northern U.S. should be looking for possible activity tonight through Saturday night. Stay tuned for updates.

I'm hoping...we're going to go out for a drive in the countryside where we can have a nice, NEARLY uninterrupted view of the northern sky...with almost no light pollution.

1st I was
then realized you didn't fake that
and now realize we are all doomed :(

Not doomed, just really annoyed. Flash will sometimes stop in the middle of a vid, go green for 2-3 seconds then a full-on BSOD and re-boot happens. Yes, all my drivers (AMD) are current and my vid card (4830) is not overclocked. I thought we were through with BSOD's back when Win 98 was the prevalent OS, I find it amazing that Adobe can completely crash a dual-core, 3.6Ghz machine running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.
