gf's 4th gen iPod just died 1 month shy of the manufacturer's warranty. Can't take it to the Apple "Genius Bar" :)roll;) without having an appointment in advance (which I can't get since it books up so fast) or being an "Apple procare customer." Has anyone here successfully booked an appointment for their customer service dept? I don't wanna pay $99 just to be a procare customer :(

Why don't I mail it to them? Called and they said they'd be happy to take care of it if I sent them the ipod along with $30 shipping!!!@#one! WTF. Guess it wasn't enough they overcharged me for an mp3 player :frown:

edit*

Pro care customers can make an appointment up to 1 week in advance while schmucks like myself can only make them day-of.

What's wrong with it? They usually aren't that complicated to repair.

Start the iPod and it gives you an Apple logo followed by a folder with an exclamation mark.

Tried:

Using firewire instead of USB
Putting it in disk mode
reset it a billion times
did the debug and it told me hdd fails

Poor college student here.

Plus, any other store will take a look at it for free by you just walking in (if it's still under warranty which this one is).

damn. sucks they dont take walk-ins. both apple stores by me not only take walk-ins, but they usually call you within 10-15 minutes. sucks getting stuck behind somebody though who can have their problems fixed easily, so i have to stand and wait for them to get it explained how to do this or that like 10 times.

My gf's is less than a year old and died.

I still have a perfectly working 3rd gen after 3 years.

I'm assuming if you're pushing out millions of any product, you're bound to have a lemon...

Yeah when I was in NYC over the summer I dropped in there and was amazed by the lines at the Bar... I was there at like 11AM and they were booked for the rest of the day.

All of the ones in IL have less than 20 minutes of waiting, always.

AppleCare is $59 and definately worth it! It extends your warranty for an extra year and keeps your $299 investment from becoming a door-stop.

You can keep trying this page to get a reservation with a Mac Genius at the SoHo store: https://genius.apple.com/customer/?store=R032

But as was said, ProCare is the only way to make reservations for a certain time with a certain genius.
