Software to synch laptop with desktop via USB??

Is there a software that will allow me to hook up a laptop to a desktop via their USB ports and synchronize files and folders? I guess it'd be sort of like the "Briefcase" deal but I'm not sure about using USB. Anybody have any experience with software like this?

My work had purchased a kit. I believe the brand/software was called SmartLinq.
